Captain Marvel will come with a lot of things for the MCU, but some are obviously bigger than others. For instance, it will see Phil Coulson return to the franchise. Finally, Clark Gregg will be back to reprise his role onscreen, and it seems like he has got some really big ideas of where to go next.

SHIELD to reboot?

Or perhaps where SHIELD goes next. The underground secretive organisation has gone through a lot of changes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and now is the time to simplify the timeline.

Clark Gregg got down with Fandom for “All Things Marvel”. That’s where Gregg opened up about his thoughts on SHIELD. Clark Gregg shared his guess for where the company goes in a post-Thanos world, and Gregg feels that the events of Avengers: Endgame will play a major role in that decision.

“My theory is that after The Avengers and the Battle of New York, the game was completely changed and the mission of SHIELD changed,” Clark Gregg explained.

“My suspicion is after Endgame there’s going to be another complete reboot that involves all of the new people we know about now and all of the new threats. It doesn’t get easier for SHIELD ever.”

For Gregg, he believes that Avengers: Endgame could the give the reboot some fans wanted from Marvel Cinematic Universe. The whole overhaul can happen via time travel or alternate dimensions, but either option would bring about a new SHIELD, which may start from ground zero when it’s about missions. Even if the secret organisation is all burnt down and then built back again, the legacy of Nick Fury and Phil Coulson is one that can’t be overwritten.
