Super Bowl is undoubtedly one of the most important and popular of the games. It is one of those games where spotting a celebrity is inevitable. But besides the game, there is another part of the event that fans look forward to the most. And it is as one would guess the halftime performance by a huge artist. This year, Rihanna is reported to be gracing the 2023 event with her performance. And it is going to be her first time on the stage after five years.

Being one of the biggest artists, it is surely going to be a huge treat for the fans and watchers. And naturally, it would make sense that Rihanna would be paid a huge sum for her appearance in the Super Bowl. However Surprisingly that does not seem to be the case. Moreover, this is not the first time the Rude Boy hitmaker has been approached for performing in the game. But fortunately for fans, she will finally give a performance.

This year, the Super Bowl will see Rihanna grace the platform for the halftime performance as reported by NFL. After a five years gap from her on-stage activities, this is going to be the first time in a while that fans will get to see her perform. But for those wondering how much the singer is going to get paid, it might be shocking to know the truth. According to the information out there, the artists that perform for the halftime at the game surprisingly do not get paid at all. The production cost can skyrocket and put a lot of financial strain on the NFL. They do cover the artist’s traveling cost but besides that, they are not paid for their performance. Therefore rather than earning millions, Rihanna will not be getting any amount.

Even though the artists are not paid, however, the production cost for their performance amounts to millions. One example would be Jennifer Lopez and Shakira’s performance back in 2020. It reportedly cost NFL about 14 million dollars.  As for this year’s Super Bowl, the halftime musical performance by Rihanna will be live from the state farm stadium.

For those who might not know, this is not the first time Rihanna is chosen to perform at the Super Bowl. Back in 2019, she turned down the opportunity presented to her by NFL. And it had nothing to do with the payments. As it turns out, the reason behind the Only Girl singer’s decision had been the debarring of Colin Kaepernick. It happened after he knelt down during the national anthem session in the 2016 game. And many were furious at NFL for blackballing Kaepernick and hence the backlash. At the time the singer explained her reason by saying,

“there’s things within that organization (the NFL) that I do not agree with at all, and I was not about to go and be of service to them in any way”

All this prevented Rihanna from performing at the 2019 Super Bowl halftime. But fortunately, in 2023, she will finally grace the show.
