A show as beloved as Modern Family should go on forever or so most fans believe. With a mix of comedy, drama, and romance in equal measure, the ABC show delighted fans across the world. In its 11-season run, the show shot all the lead actors into stardom and made them household names. Ed O’Neill, Sofia Vergara, Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell, Eric Stonestreet, and Jesse Tyler Ferguson along with the younger cast had a blast filming the show and the audience shared their revelry equally.

While this news would excite fans immensely, Sofia Vergara recently confirmed that Modern Family is not being rebooted. The Emmy-nominated actress appeared on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon to talk about her upcoming Netflix series regarding the Mexican cartel named Griselda. Even though the series is facing backlash from the titular character’s family in real life, Netflix does not seem in the mood to rescind the release of the show.

On The Tonight Show, Vergara also spoke about her heartwarming experience on the Modern Family show. The featured family went from reel to real life since the cast members regularly catch up and support each other throughout their lives. In fact, the cast of the show was also present at Sarah Hyland’s wedding where Jesse Tyler Ferguson officiated the wedding after Ty Burrell had to drop out due to some family emergency. When Fallon asked her if a reboot was in the works, Vergara candidly said,

“No, it’s only been four years. I don’t know, but it doesn’t seem right. I feel like we need a little bit more time. Well, we don’t have much time because Ed [O’Neill] is old.”

The actress has a point since people need to be nostalgic about a show to want to see a reboot or revival. Ended only a few years before, the audience needs more time to miss the show and demand a new season. However, with the spread of OTT platforms, fans can watch the show anytime they want and younger people keep finding the show relevant and funny in today’s time. Even Modern Family’s creator Steve Levitan and writer Christopher Llyod agree with this and want to leave the series as it ended.

Are Spinoffs a Good Idea?

Many television shows have come and gone, but only a select few make an impact as indelible as Modern Family, Breaking Bad, The Big Bang Theory and FRIENDS, among a few others. While there’s no sure-shot recipe to success when it comes to series and their spinoffs, there are some factors that make some spinoff shows stand out from the rest. For example, Better Call Saul emerged from the Breaking Bad world and amazed the viewers with every aspect of its storytelling. The show was even nominated for various Emmys throughout its run.

Young Sheldon came after The Big Bang Theory to focus on the titular character’s childhood experiences and journey to becoming a genius Nobel-winning scientist. These shows must have found their niche audience quite easily while still offering something fresh and different from the parent series. The original makers and actors were involved in the spinoffs that gave the shows some reliability and connection. Even Modern Family makers were on the verge of creating a spinoff series that focused on Mitch and Cam’s story, but the idea was later dropped. It would be a good idea to revive the successful show after a few more years when the audience truly misses seeing the lovable family on screen.
