SUMMARY
  • Tom Holland expressed excitement about the potential of 'Spider-Man 4' after reading a draft of the script.
  • Holland has expressed interest in mentoring Miles Morales in the MCU.
  • Speculation is growing that 'Spider-Man 4' could tie into MCU's multiversal saga.

It has been almost three years since the Marvel Cinematic Universe had its last Spider-Man installment. No Way Home showed how the multiversal aspect of Spider-Man would look, and if you thought that was it, then you might be completely wrong.

Although the ending of Spider-Man: No Way Home seemingly foreshadows a grounded story for Peter Parker, it might not happen in Spider-Man 4. The way MCU and Sony’s superhero universe are moving forward, it seems like Spider-Man needs to be prepared for some multiversal threats, and Tom Holland’s recent comments hint at the same.

Although Spider-Man 4 has no confirmed release date as of now, its production is expected to begin in the mid- or later half of 2025, and the movie is expected to release between Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.

This leaves very little scope for the movie to be a grounded story of Tom Holland‘s Peter Parker and a street-level villain. Although No Way Home showed him losing his identity, which forced him to start everything from the basics, it might be possible that Spider-Man 4 finds a way to get over it quite soon.

Moreover, in a recent interview on the Rich Roll podcast, Holland revealed that he recently read a draft of Spider-Man 4‘s script. He said,

We have a creative and we have a pitch and a draft, which is excellent. It needs work, but the writers are doing a great job. I read it three weeks ago and it really lit a fire in me. Zendaya and I sat down and read it together and we at times were bouncing around the living room like this is a real movie worthy of the fans’ respect.

Holland also mentioned that the current challenge for the Spider-Man 4 script is to make it fit into the bigger picture of the MCU.

One of the things is that, with Marvel, your film is a small cog in a large machine. That machine has got to keep running. You have to make sure you can fit into that timeline at the right time to benefit the bigger picture. That’s one of the challenges we’re facing.

Holland also wants to mentor Miles Morales in the future in a live-action version. He said,

If I would be lucky enough to somehow bring Miles Morales into my Spider-Man universe and into the MCU, I’d love to do for a young kid what [Robert] Downey [Jr.] did for me.

It might not make sense to bring Miles Morales from Spider-Verse to get mentored by Holland’s Spidey, as Morales himself probably has better experience of the multiverse. However, MCU might bring its own Morales or probably bring the Spider-Verse‘s Morales as a friend.

Spider-Man 4 Rumors and Updates

After the huge success of No Way Home, Sony probably doesn’t want to miss any opportunity to use a piece of MCU for its benefit. And MCU will be at the peak of its multiversal saga by the time Spider-Man 4 comes out. So it is quite natural to speculate that the movie might be a narrative bridge between Doomsday and Secret Wars.

Talking about theories, fans have been coming up with many of them. There are rumors that Emma Stone’s Gwen Stacy might appear in Spider-Man 4 since it is a popular belief that Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire might reappear again. When asked about it, Garfield said in his interview on Happy Sad Confused podcast,

Yeah, of course your assumption is not unfounded. If I was in your position, I can imagine going, ‘Yeah, he’s probably had some conversations,’ too.

It is natural for the MCU actors to hide their future appearances, and Garfield is famous for that too. On the other hand, Sony is coming up with Venom: The Last Dance, which has teased Knull, the God of Symbiotes.

Venom 3‘s director-writer Kelly Marcel told IGN that Knull is too big of a threat to deal with in one movie by Venom himself, and it is “just the beginning for Knull.” This further leads to speculations about Knull appearing in Spider-Man 4. Moreover, Venom has also left a part of himself on MCU’s Earth, which might get involved in all this chaos.

Furthermore, some speculations say Spider-Man 4 might take place in Battleworld created by Doctor Doom after Doomsday, which will serve as a setting in Secret Wars. With all these possibilities, it will be a tough time for the makers to do justice to fan expectations.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is available to stream on Netflix.

Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars will be released on May 1, 2026 and May 7, 2027 respectively.
