A new look of the original Green Goblin mask from Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man (2001) reflects how accurate it was as compared to the original one from comics.
Patrick Hearty, a famous prop collector, posted a new picture on his Instagram handle that includes the original Green Goblin mask from the film. This mask was considered before Dafoe got cast. Later, it went into a tech-centric direction.

Green Goblin Stepping Into MCU
In 2017, a screen test scene showed this mask in action due to its unique blend of prosthetics and animatronics. With that being said, this Green Goblin mask was developed by Stan Winston Studios and Amalgamated Dynamics. However, it got fixed for the static and sleek helmet that Dafoe later wore in the movie. The iteration of the character in the movie went far away from the comic book design, with The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man 3 featuring no mask for the character. Apparently, it was Dean DeHaan’s character that got some facial features like Goblin.
The character, Green Goblin, is yet to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, the first trailer of Marvel’s upcoming Spider-Man: No Way Home teased the fan base with a scope of Goblin returning on screen. This would be done as a result of MCU entering the concept of Multiverses. While Doctor Oak is clearly shown stepping into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it was only the Goblin Bomb that rolled down on a scene. This hints that Dafoe might come back.
Spider-Man: No Way Home’s trailer also hinted that Jamie Foxx’s Electro from Amazing Spider-Man: 2 will also make an appearance in the film. Keeping things in a notion, Dafoe might show up with a different costume this time. Whatever it would be, the upcoming Spider-Man film will finally treat the Green Goblin fans with a live-action take on-screen.
Spider-Man: No Way Home will hit the theaters on December 17, 2021.
