Squid Game Creator Reveals The Show Almost Had A Different Ending
The program creator of Squid Game has recently revealed that the show almost had a different ending. Netflix has one too many shows but no one really broke the internet like this show and it stands out for so many reasons. The acting, of course, is simply class apart and the overall concept keeps you at the edge of your seat. Hwang Dong-hyuk really made something different and Squid Game really quickly became a household name. However, Hwang Dong-hyuk has recently revealed that there could have been a different ending than the one we saw. Check it out!
Squid Game Could’ve Had A Different Ending
The show had many moments where we jumped right out of our seats and said to ourselves, “What the hell?” That was the entire nature of the show. Now, when we talk about the ending, it almost felt like Gi-hun was done with living in his past and finally go make some right choices. But right before he could start a new life and forget it all, he chooses the road not taken, turns back, and decided to go back to the Squid Game. Now, it’s revealed that the ending could have been different. While speaking to Entertainment Weekly, the creator Hwang Dong-hyuk revealed:
We actually wrestled between two different scenarios for the ending. There was one, the other alternate ending, where Gi-hun would get on the plane and leave. And then there was of course the one where he would turn back and walk towards the camera. We constantly asked ourselves, is it really right for Gi-hun to make the decision to leave and go see his family, to pursue his own happiness? Is that the right way for us to really propose the question or the message that we wanted to convey through the series? We came to the conclusion that the question that we wanted to propose cannot be done if he left on the plane.”
Why The Alternative Ending Would Be Messy
The call to bring back Gi-Hun is a sound decision because if he would have left on the plane, the second season would spend some majority exploring his new life. Then, bringing him back to the games would put a question on his morality and accountability. Before the end, we see that he gives money to Sang-woo’s mother and comes like a guardian. Then, he brings himself into shape and decided to go see his girl and save his past. But if he would have left, bringing him back would be a complicated angle to follow.
Right now, Gi-Hun is in the heart of it and season 2 has the perfect opportunity to start with a bang. Gi-Hun is destined to stop the games. But as we talked earlier, Il-Nam could be plotting to bring back Gi-Hun and make him his successor. Now, if that happens, then the show has the ability to go one for another season as we can have Gi-Hun lose his morality and become the true embodiment of evil which would show the true effect of the Squid Game on a person.
