Irish actor Cillian Murphy has been collaborating with Christopher Nolan for the past twenty years. The actor-director duo gave one of the biggest blockbusters of 2023. This award season unanimously belonged to the Dunkirk star. He was nominated for the Critic’s Choice and secured his first BAFTA and SAG Award for his excellent performance in Oppenheimer.

During his acceptance speech at the SAG Awards, Cillian Murphy suggested an idea to earn easy money for one of his Oppenheimer co-stars.

Cillian Murphy Advises His Oppenheimer Co-star On Easy Money During The SAG Award Acceptance Speech

Cillian Murphy has taken the lead this award season in the best actor category. From securing his first Golden Globe under his name to becoming the face of one of the biggest blockbusters of 2023, Murphy has already made a significant place for himself in Hollywood. Recently, the Peaky Blinders star was awarded the SAG award in the Best Actor category for his terrific performance in Oppenheimer. 

While giving his acceptance speech, Murphy spoke about the mastermind behind the nickname Oppenhomies and suggested a business idea to his co-star. He said-

“Oh, my goodness. This is extremely, extremely special to me because it comes from you guys.  Okay, my Oppenheimer crew, my Oppenheimer family. Just an FYI on that exquisite moniker Oppenhomies, That was actually invented by the great Olivia Thirlby. So, Olivia, I think you should immediately trademark that and start merching the s— out of it because someone else will. Seriously, they were the greatest group of actors I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with.”

He was thankful to his Oppenheimer co-stars for taking care of him during the filming of Oppenheimer,

“I have never felt so looked after or cared for by a group of actors every day. Looking at your names on the call sheet, just made me brave guys. So thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I am just bursting with admiration and respect for you all. Chris Nolan and Emma Thomas, as always such a debt of gratitude to you. To my wife, Yvonne, and my boys, Malachy and Aran, I adore you.”

With a staggering box office collection of $926 million, Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer is gradually moving towards the billion-dollar club. The biographical saga is based on the American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer by  Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin.

Christopher Nolan Wrote A Heart Touching Note For Cillian Murphy

During a recent interview with CBS’ 60 Minutes Cillian Murphy showed off a copy of Oppenheimer’s script. In Nolan’s signature style, the screenplay was printed on red paper with black ink. It also included a heart-touching note for Cillian Murphy, which read as

“Dearest Cillian. Finally, a chance to see you lead… Love, Chris.”

Christopher Nolan and Cillian Murphy have collaborated on six movies – Inception, Dunkirk, Oppenheimer, and the Dark Knight trilogy. As reported by the Associated Press, the Irish actor said that he was desperate to lead a Christopher Nolan movie. He said-

“I have always said publicly and privately, to Chris, that if I’m available and you want me to be in a movie, I’m there. I don’t really care about the size of the part, but deep down, secretly, I was desperate to play a lead for him.”

He further shared-

“He’s so understated and self-deprecating and, in his very English manner, just said, ‘Listen, I’ve written this script, it’s about Oppenheimer. I’d like you to be my Oppenheimer, It was a great day… We have this long-standing understanding and trust and shorthand and respect. It felt like the right time to take on a bigger responsibility. And it just so happened that it was a huge one.”

With 13 nominations, Oppenheimer has left behind Emma Stone’s Poor Things and Martin Scorsese’s Killers Of The Flower Moon for the Oscars 2024. Boasting an IMDb rating of 8.4, Oppenheimer is available to stream on Peacock.
