‘Stop stealing Beyoncé’s thunder’: Will Smith Gets Trolled For Hogging Attention After Beyoncé Releases New Album, Fans Say Jada is Behind It
Nothing that the Smiths do goes unnoticed anymore, and it feels like everything is part of a scripted ruse. Maybe it’s fair to say that the family, especially Mr. and Mrs. Smith themselves, have attention on their mind and that’s what they aim at. In the latest feat, Will Smith suddenly got the urge to put out an apology video for his actions at the 2022 Academy Awards, 4 months after the incident took place. A little slow to reckon your mistakes, eh? Is it simply a coincidence that the apology video comes on the same day that Beyonce releases her album? Fans cannot look past the uncanny timing of it all.
Will Smith officially apologizes to Chris Rock; too little, too late?
Will Smith successfully tarnished his public image for a long time to come when he assaulted comedian Chris Rock on live television at the 2022 Academy Awards ceremony. Exactly 4 months later, the King Richard actor seems to have had a sense of sudden awakening that has led him to post an apology video on YouTube. He had slapped Chris Rock and yelled at him for making an innocent joke about Jada Smith’s bald look, comparing it to Demi Moore’s G.I. Jane.
In the video, Smith says, “It’s all fuzzy. I’ve reached out to Chris and the message that came back is he’s not ready to talk, and when he is, he will reach out.” He admitted that his violent instinct was instigated because Rock referenced his wife’s hair loss which was the result of a disease she has publicly been struggling with, alopecia. Although he did accept that his behavior was “unacceptable”
He further added,
“There is no part of me that thinks that was the right way to behave in that moment. There’s no part of me that thinks that’s the optimal way to handle a feeling of disrespect or insults.”
Mr. Smith made a point to absolve the missus of any accountability in the incident, referencing her eye-roll at the joke Chris Rock had made. He said,
“It’s like, you know, I made a choice on my own, from my own experiences, from my history with Chris. Jada had nothing to do with it. I’m sorry, babe. I want to say sorry to my kids and my family for the heat that I brought on all of us.”
In the aftermath of the incident, Will Smith resigned from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the group behind the Oscars, making an official remorseful statement that also became viral meme material.

The suspicious timing
A 4-month gap between the incident and its reckoning is not the weirdest thing about the timing of Will Smith’s apology. The actor had been maintaining a low profile for months now and the day he decides to make a statement, happens to be the day Beyonce released an album after 6 years. The fans definitely had a field day on Twitter, not just applauding the queen Beyonce and her latest album Renaissance, but also calling out Will Smith for choosing this day to steal Beyonce’s thunder.
