Sylvester Stallone Said No to Work With Arnold Schwarzenegger in a Movie That Forced Him to Dress as a “Semi Attractive Woman”
Actors often miss out on great collaborations in movies and even legends are no strangers to this. Who wouldn’t want to work with superstar Arnold Schwarzenegger? Well, Sylvester Stallone came out to be the one.
The actor once revealed that he had to turn down a movie that was offered to Arnold Schwarzenegger as well. Although it wasn’t intentional, Sylvester Stallone had no option but to refuse the role he was offered. Numerous actors do not hesitate to reject an offer if it makes them uncomfortable and the iconic stars did the same.
Sylvester Stallone Rejected a Role Alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger
Actor Sylvester Stallone revealed that there was a time when the prospect of teaming up with Arnold Schwarzenegger was on the table, but came with a unique condition that neither actor could have foreseen. The Rocky Balboa star was seen as a tough guy, hence he turned down a role alongside the former Mr. Olympia because it required them to dress like a drag, portraying women which made the actors uncomfortable and eventually denied the movie. Stallone in an interview with Ain’t it Cool News said:
“The second was about a pair of undercover cops that had to go into the world of femme fatales – by dressing in wigs and dresses – to expose a serial killer. Can you imagine us two mugs trying to pass ourselves off as even semi-attractive women? You’d be better off drawing a face on the south end of a north-bound bulldog.”
The First Blood actor discussed that the second project that he rejected wanted him and Schwarzenegger to disguise themselves as women to expose a serial killer. The movie offered to the iconic stars was about two police officers who had to enter a world populated by female females, which typically refers to uncanny and bewitching women who often play roles in crime films, as a result, the Rambo actor found this idea hopeless.
After rejecting this movie Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger collaborated on their first movie Escape Plan making it their first project in leading roles. Both actors believed that the script of Escape Plan was finally the right venture to team up with and received positive reviews from fans.
Expend4bles Director Commented on Sylvester Stallone’s Movie and its Future
The Expendables franchise is undeniably well-known for bringing together the action stars from the 80s and 90s. And with its fourth installment which has recently hit the theatres, has received negative reviews and underperformed at the box office. Despite having acclaimed actors like Sylvester Stallone, Megan Fox, 50 Cents, and Jason Statham, Expendables 4 failed to impress the viewers, unlike its previous installments which managed to receive positive reviews. Director Scott Waugh discussed Stallone’s departure and mentioned that the franchise is passing its torch to Statham’s character. Waugh told MovieFone:
“Being on the full run of an Expendables movie takes up a lot of his time and I fully respect that. Jason’s my age and is still excited about continually working a lot. So it was a natural pass. Now, I’ll say, I don’t think Sly is out of the brand.”
Even though Expendables 4 flopped at the box office grossing just $8.3 million in its opening weekend for a movie that had a budget of $100 million, the director mentioned that Stallone might remain part of the franchise in different capacities. The differences between the Creed actor and the studio led to a decreased role of Stallone in the recent movie which eventually impacted the movie’s reception and development.
