Taylor Swift’s highly anticipated The Tortured Poets Department album was released on April 19, 2024, and reportedly sold nearly 1.4 million copies in traditional album sales. She announced her eleventh studio album while accepting the award at the Grammy Awards in February 2024. The album is issued as a double album, and the second volume is subtitled The Anthology.
Swifties across the world have been listening to every song on the album carefully, looking for any Easter eggs the artist might have dropped. The fans, along with publications, have been trying to decode the lyrics of the songs on the album because as it is known the artist is a storyteller.

Taylor Swift is happy to share credits with ex-Joe Alwyn for the songs they worked on together
Following the release of her highly anticipated studio album, Taylor Swift is celebrating its success by sharing snippets of her work on the album. One of the things that her fans are genuinely good at is decoding the lyrics of her music. The artist, using her brilliant writing skills, has yet again dropped hints about the people in her life, and her six-year-long relationship with actor Joe Alwyn was no exception.
Songs including Florida and So Long London have Joe Alwyn written all over them. Where the former is her subtle reaction to the rumors of her cheating on Alwyn with Matt Healy, the latter is reportedly a heartbreaking goodbye from the artist to someone she thought was going to be her forever.
It is a known fact that Swift is practically unhinged when it comes to pouring her heart out via music, and The Tortured Poets Department is no different. From talking about believing that she had a future together with Alwyn to planning a family with him and him leaving her in their London house, Swift has mentioned all of it in her latest album. The actor has reportedly disabled comments on his social media, and an insider shared that Taylor Swift is not worried about sharing credits with her ex-boyfriend, with whom she worked on three songs from her previous album. “When it comes to her new album, she has no qualms about the songs being about him and their breakup. He’s a fair game, in her view. Taylor and Joe worked together on a lot of songs, and she was happy to give him writing credits for them; he deserved it.”
Joe Alwyn collaborated with Swift on her projects, including writing songs for Folklore, Evermore, and Midnights under the pseudonym William Bowery. The couple broke up in March 2023.
Taylor Swift’s comments about ‘not liking to hide’ her relationship resurface online
Apart from the romance between Swift and Alwyn resurfacing on the Internet, one thing that has made its way back is the comments by the singer on the privacy of their relationship. During her interview on The Chatty Man back in 2012, Swift said,
“To me, it all depends on who you’re with. If they have a serious issue with it, then you, I guess, hide or whatever, but I don’t really like that. Because it makes me feel like I’m running from the law or something. I don’t want to feel like I’m fugitive, like, ‘Oh my God, we’re having a relationship! Better put on a mask and stuff.!”
The artist mentioned that she would rather live her life than worry about what others have to say or think about her. She started dating Alwyn in 2016 and spent almost six years of their relationship away from the spotlight. According to US Magzine, at the time Swift explained that her choosing to lay low was due to her facing scrutiny post-split with Calvin Harris and Tom Hiddleston, along with her feud with Kanye West and Kim Kardashian.
In her 2020 documentary, Miss Americana (via US Magazine) addressed her privacy by stating that they decided to keep their relationship private and she was happy. She clarified that she was happy without anyone else’s input. Taylor Swift is now dating Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, and they have been going strong with appearing as each other’s supporters.
The Tortured Poets Department is out now.
