However, we aren’t claiming that Taylor Swift’s album is about Alwyn, whom she dated for six years, but let us tell you that the group chat name was invented after the actor played Nick in the TV series Conversations With Friends, where he portrayed a  married photographer who becomes romantically involved with a young poet.

While receiving her 13th Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Album for Midnights, Taylor Swift disclosed in her acceptance speech that after a long time, she’s finally released The Tortured Poets Department. The Look What You Made Me Do singer said (via Variety):

“Okay, this is my 13th Grammy, which is my lucky number. I don’t know if I’ve ever told you that… So I want to say thank you to the fans by telling you a secret that I have been keeping from you for the last two years, which is that my brand-new album comes out April 19th. It’s called ‘The Tortured Poets Department.’ I’m going to go and post the cover right now backstage. Thank you, I love you! Thank you!”

The globally renowned pop star mentioned that she’s been keeping this upcoming album for two years, which is when we knew that Joe Alwyn and his friend named their group chat The Tortured Man Club (via GQ). Even social media users, notable on X, have speculated that The Tortured Poets Department is about Swift’s ex-boyfriend since she has a history of taking revenge with hit songs.

“All’s fair in love and poetry… Sincerely, The Chairman of The Tortured Poets Department.”

Following the posts, fans couldn’t stop expressing their excitement and anticipation for the Teardrops on My Guitar singer’s upcoming album. Taylor Swift has now become one of the most iconic singers in pop culture after her Eras Tour broke remarkable records.

The Tortured Poets Department comes out on April 19.
