Fans point out Taylor Swift’s ‘But Daddy I Love Him’ referencing Little Mermaid
Swifties are probably having a blast with Taylor Swift not only announcing her eleventh studio album The Tortured Poets Department but also sharing the track list with Post Malone and Florence + the Machine appearing as collaborators.
But fans were quick to note that one of the songs on Side B of her album ‘But Daddy I Love Him’ could be a direct reference to 1989’s animated movie The Little Mermaid with Harry Styles and Joe Alwyn.
In a scene from the movie, Ariel’s father King Triton finds out about her romance with Prince Eric and forbids her from going to the surface and she says the line to express her feelings for him. This is significant because Ariel gives up her voice to have a chance to find happiness after she yearns to know more about the human world.
