Even though MCU stars are admired for their outgoing personalities, they often fall prey to controversies in real life. There was a time when Chris Evans was on great terms with Scarlett Johansson but he did something stupid along with Jeremy Renner that distorted their bond. Fans were outraged when Chris Evans aka Captain America and Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye) sl*t shamed none other than our favorite Black Widow.

Being the only female Avenger, she faced casual s*xism at the hands of her colleagues and friends. She was called a sl*t during an interview in 2015. Those who truly idolized Chris Evans and Renner were taken aback by this crude remark.

“She’s a sl*t” – Jeremy Renner

Chris Evans and Jeremy Renner were asked about Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow being with Bruce Banner instead of Captain America or Hawkeye during an interview with Digital Spy in 2015 while promoting Avengers: Age of Ultron. “She’s a sl*t,” Jeremy said. “I was going to say something along that line,” Chris said, laughing. Renner however, didn’t stop her and continued “She’s a complete wh*re.”

Both celebrities faced a lot of backlash as a result of their comments, with some fans calling them sexist and others claiming they were simply being sarcastic. All this backlash prompted them to apologize. Chris and Jeremy apologized for their comments, calling they were “very juvenile and offensive” and truly regret what they said.

“Yesterday we were asked about the rumors that Black Widow wanted to be in a relationship with both Hawkeye and Captain America. We answered in a very juvenile and offensive way that rightfully angered some fans. I regret it and sincerely apologize.” – Chris Evans

“I am sorry that this tasteless joke about a fictional character offended anyone. It was not meant to be serious in any way. Just poking fun during an exhausting and tedious press tour.” – Jeremy Renner
