“That would be like Mr Bean and Mick Jagger beefing”: Ayo Edebiri Beefing With Jennifer Lopez Rumors Can Not be Farther From the Truth
Ayo Edebiri has been making headlines after she made a funny remark about singer Jennifer Lopez. Recently, an old recording of a podcast surfaced where Edebiri made some (not-so-wise) comments about J.Lo’s career.
This led some people to think there might be bad feelings between the comedian and the pop star. The 28-year-old was set to co-host the popular show Saturday Night Live, with Waiting For Tonight singer appearing as the musical guest. There, Edebiri quickly shut down the rumors, calling the whole ‘beef’ idea ‘absurd.’
Ayo Edebiri’s Podcast Quip on Jennifer Lopez Gone Wrong
Ayo Edebiri, a young actress on the rise from the show The Bear, landed in hot water recently. Back in 2020, she appeared on a podcast named Scam Goddess. During the show, host Laci Mosley jokingly said Jennifer Lopez‘s career was a “long scam.” The Massachusetts native, playing along with the joke, said:
I think she thinks that she’s still good, even though she’s not singing for most of these songs. A lot of the write-ups of the songs will be like, ‘J.Lo didn’t have time to make it to the studio.’ Like, ‘J.Lo was busy.’ Doing what? Not singing, obviously.
Fast forward to February 2024, Edebiri found herself in a surprising situation. She was chosen to co-host the popular show Saturday Night Live, with guess who? Jennifer Lopez herself!
The internet, with a good memory for jokes, went crazy. People started speculating a possible on-air fight between the two stars. However, Edebiri addressed the situation head-on during her SNL appearance. In a game show sketch, she poked fun at herself, saying:
OK, OK, we get it. It’s wrong to leave mean comments, or post comments just for clout, or run your mouth on a podcast and you don’t consider the impact because you’re 24 and stupid.
In this month’s Vanity Fair cover story, she quipped:
That would be like Mr. Bean and Mick Jagger beefing — and I’m obviously Mr. Bean. She’s J.Lo!
Thankfully, for fans of both celebrities, the rumors proved to be much ado about nothing.
Ayo Edebiri’s Heartfelt Apology to Jennifer Lopez
More importantly, Ayo Edebiri took the situation seriously and personally apologized to Jennifer Lopez. “She was very chill and nice about it,” Edebiri shared with Vanity Fair. The 51-year-old herself confirmed the Theater Camp star’s apology, telling EW:
She actually came to my dressing room, and she was very sweet. She was like, ‘Listen, I was young. I was on this thing. I said these things, and I am so sorry.’ She had seen my soundcheck, and she’s like, ‘You are amazing. I’m watching you out there singing and doing your thing. And I’m sorry.’ She was very gracious.
Internet can sometimes take things a bit too seriously. Although Edebiri’s comments got misunderstood, a quick apology and explanation fixed everything.
