“That’s how he knows everything that’s happening all the time”: A Harry Potter Theory Turns Michael Gambon into James Bond, Dumbledore’s Legendary Spy Network Even J.K. Rowling Would be Proud of
- Harry Potter, written by J. K. Rowling, is one of the biggest franchises in Hollywood.
- A fan has theorized that Dumbledore has a network of informants through the Chocolate Frog cards.
- The theory seems to have a loophole as cards featuring Dumbledore were rare.
With seven books, eight movies, a couple of spin-off films, an upcoming series, and whatnot, Harry Potter is one of the biggest fantasy franchises. For years, the franchise has entertained millions of fans worldwide and continues to do so even now.
Considering how active the immensely huge fandom is, there is always a new theory lurking around. One of these theories concerns how Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Headmaster Albus Dumbledore knows everything that has been happening in the Wizarding World. A fan has theorized that it is through the Chocolate Frog cards.
Harry Potter Fans Believe Albus Dumbledore Has an Expansive Spy Network Spread Through Chocolate Frog Cards
Although complex, Albus Dumbledore is one of the most important characters in the franchise. Even though he was initially seen as the savior who rescued the Boy Who Lived and brought him to safety, things began to look a little murky when it was revealed that he knew that Harry was one of the Horcruxes.
However, that changed when he sacrificed himself to keep the fight against Voldemort alive. He has always been considered one of the greatest wizards of all time, not just for his wizardry skills, but also for his wit and strategic nature. Richard Harris portrayed the character in the first two films and was replaced by Michael Gambon for the latter movies.
One of the interesting things about him is that he always knows everything happening in the Wizarding World. While this has not been explored exclusively in the books or movies, one can assume that he has spies everywhere or something entirely different. A fan on Reddit has come up with a theory that makes Dumbledore seem no less than James Bond.
This may or may not be true since there is no proof that this is what exactly happened. There is also a chance that Dumbledore has a wide network of informants across the Wizarding World, which had nothing to do with the snack.
Can Albus Dumbledore Really Get Information Through Chocolate Frog Cards?
The Chocolate Frog snacks are a popular wizarding confection, only available for wizards and witches and the frogs although made of chocolate can move about however they wish to. Chocolate Frog cards are collectible trading cards that come with the snack and feature a famous witch or wizard, along with a brief biography.
In the first book/movie, there is a scene in which Harry is aboard the Hogwarts Express for the first time and has made friends with Ronald Weasley. The two of them are sharing snacks and Harry opens a Chocolate Frog. He receives a card with Dumbledore’s image. This leads to Ron commenting on the rarity of getting a card featuring the old wizard.
This implies that cards featuring Dumbledore are probably not enough for him to stay updated on the things going on in that world. It is hard to tell what the truth is and what is not, but J.K. Rowling might feel proud that fans have been able to come up with such a smart theory.
The Harry Potter movies are available for renting and buying on Apple TV.
