“That’s what NXT is for”: Dwayne Johnson Handles a Humiliating Moment Gracefully, Proving WWE Promos Are Not as Easy as It Looks
- WWE legend The Rock made an appearance on WWE NXT and created waves online.
- Dwayne Johnson fans are too excited to see him back inside the ring.
- Johnson gave an electrifying appearance on WWE's Monday Night Raw on Netflix before garnering attention on NXT's “New Year’s Evil”.
It was a treat for Dwayne Johnson fans as he made electrifying appearances inside the ring back-to-back on ‘Monday Night Raw’ on Netflix and WWE’s NXT. Johnson gained a lot of attention for delivering a promo for the main event. But what grabbed our eyeballs was a beautiful but hilarious moment with Ethan Page and the manager of NXT Ava (The Rock’s daughter) backstage.
Though, it didn’t go as it was planned. During the promo, it seemed like Johnson forgot his lines and missed a beat to pick up his performance. Fans noticed it immediately and flooded social media platforms with their opinions on it. However, this little vulnerability proved how difficult it is to do promos without a script.
Dwayne Johnson’s slip-up caused an internet roar
In the promo for the main segment of WWE’s NXT, Johnson decided to reflect on his actions toward Cody Rhodes from last year. He began by saying how people went on and on about his mean behavior towards Cody in the previous year. Now, a year later, when he praised the American Nightmare on RAW on Netflix, the public noticed that. In his promo, Dwayne Douglas Johnson stated that people were like “you can’t be nice to Cody”.
Dwayne Johnson further continued and addressed his fans that “at the end of the day let us all remind them that The Rock is the final boss.” He then asked people to “know their role and shut their mouths and enjoy the ride that The Rock is taking them to.” However, while delivering the promo, he fumbled in quite a few places which made the internet go crazy. It was not well-received and many noted that it lacked the focus. It seemed like the Red Notice actor forgot his lines.
Thus it sparked reactions from social media users. Now, X (previously known as Twitter) has turned into a meme fest where people have been talking about Johnson’s slip-up. Here’s what the users posted online:
Even though The Rock’s presence energized the audience, the promo garnered a lot of criticism from the public for lacking a direction. It was more of a repetitive and scattered message.
Dwayne Johnson’s interaction with Ava backstage
While Johnson’s promo wasn’t well-received among the audience, his interaction with Ava and Ethan Page was quite entertaining. In the segment, he told Page that he had heard about him which wasn’t all good so if he needed anything Ethan Page could call him up. Later, while asserting his authority, he said, “I’m the ‘Final Boss,’ and Ava is the ‘Final Boss’ on NXT. That means you need to respect my daughter.”
The Rock was then seen patting Page’s back, calling him ‘cute’. After Ethan Page left, the former WWE star moved his attention to his daughter and asked for some advice regarding what to say in the main event. The doting daughter and the manager of NXT, Ava said,
No one has your record, no one can do what you can. You have been in front of millions of crowds but you have never been in front of a NXT crowd. Their passion is different. So, you might not know what to say but when you go out there, you gonna feel exactly what to say.
This cute little father-daughter moment won many hearts.
