Amanda Seyfried began acting at the young age of 15, and after decades, she finally opened up about some of the exploitation she had to face in the industry, especially shooting a n*de scene against her wishes when she was just 19.

Amanda Seyfried Agreed To A N*de Scene Against Her Wishes When She Was Just 19 And Here Is Why

From Emilia Clarke to Jennifer Lopez, big-name stars have been pressured to take their clothes off for a scene or two. While this is absolutely okay if the actor willingly does it and it is their choice to do so, what is not okay is pressurizing them into it because of their age or newness in the industry, which puts a target on their back in the ruthless world of Hollywood.

During and after the #MeToo movement, many stars opened up about how they have faced quite uncomfortable situations they could not get out of while shooting intimate scenes just because they were afraid to say no. Amanda Seyfried was one of the victims of that. In an in-depth interview with Porter magazine, The Dropout star opened up about how she had to agree to film a n*de scene when she was just 19. Although she claims that she survived the pre #MeToo era “pretty unscathed,” it is still quite disheartening to see that the woman who has been putting a smile on her fans’ faces for a decade had to go through this kind of thing. She bravely opens up and says,

“Being 19, walking around without my underwear on – like, are you kidding me? How did I let that happen?”

She then takes a pause of mock consideration and says,

“Oh, I know why: I was 19 and I didn’t want to upset anybody, and I wanted to keep my job. That’s why.”

The industry has come a long way, with intimacy coordinators almost becoming an on-set requirement. Several actors have spoken up about how they feel much more safe and comfortable filming intimate scenes with an intimacy coordinator on set.

However, there are also celebrities like Sean Bean, who told the UK’s Sunday Times that intimacy coordinators “spoil the spontaneity” of a scene like that. In his words, with a coordinator, the intimate scenes come down to a “technical exercise.” West Side Story star Rachel Zegler, The Good Place actor Jameela Jamil, and even Bean’s Snowpiercer costar Lena Hall defended using intimacy coordinators on set against Bean’s comments.

The Movie That Gives Amanda Seyfried “Nightmares” Still

While appearing on Variety’s ‘Actors on Actors’ series, Amanda Seyfried did not hold back on self-criticism. One of the most ambitious projects she was a part of was Les Misérables, and while critics could not get enough of her and Anne Hathaway, Seyfried has some harsh criticism towards herself.

“I wish I could redo Les Misérables completely because the live singing aspect; I still have nightmares about it.”

Amanda Seyfried also told how she relied on her co-actor Hugh Jackman for the majority of it. She heaped a ton of praise on him for being so “warm” and supportive.

“I just remember [Jackman] being so warm, and him knowing that I was struggling and just feeling like he was there for me. When you trust your partner like that, even if you’re feeling like shit, something real comes through, and I’m able to speak-sing.”

However, even though she has nightmares about it still, she is not one to back out. In fact, she had been diligently working on her voice and her vibrato ever since then to make herself more than prepared for any upcoming movies, such as Les Misérables

Les Misérables can be rented on Prime Video.
