The Apothecary Diaries Season 3 Voice Cast & Their Other Notable Roles
Rarely do we see a change in the core voice cast of an already popular anime IP, no matter how many sequel seasons it receives. Now, since the production team & studio remained unchanged from Season 1 to Season 2, it’s reasonable to expect the same team to return for Season 3 as well.
Now, if you’re not familiar with the original Japanese voice cast of The Apothecary Diaries, we’ve mentioned them all here, along with their other notable works:
1. Maomao

Voice Actor: Aoi Yuki | Other Notable Roles: Tanya from The Saga of Tanya the Evil, Kaname from Madoka Magica
Maomao’s Japanese voice actor, Aoi Yuki, has done a phenomenal job with the role. Not only did she manage to capture her psychotic nature as an apothecary, but also her caring side, which always helps those in need. So it’s no surprise that Aoi Yuki won Best Voice Artist Performance (Japanese) two years running, in 2025 and 2026, and Maomao also won Best Main Character at the 2026 ceremony.
2. Jinshi

Voice Actor: Takeo Otsuka | Other Notable Roles: Aqua from Oshi no Ko, Tsukasa from Medalist
Jinshi’s character in the anime is also quite difficult to pull off because he constantly has to maintain a double persona, one as the supervisor of the Inner Court and the other as a lovesick admirer of Maomao. However, this duality is portrayed perfectly in the anime, which catapulted the character’s popularity manyfold. And again, some of the best Jinshi moments in the anime came during his romantic interactions with Maomao. We are excited to see Takeo Otsuka as Jinshi, yet again in the upcoming The Apothecary Diaries Season 3 and the Movie.
3. Gaoshun

Voice Actor: Katsuyuki Konishi | Other Notable Roles: Kamina from Gurren Lagann, Uzui from Demon Slayer
Gaoshun always acts so calm and composed that it’s impossible not to like him. Even though he is technically Jinshi’s personal assistant, he often has to take care of the messes left behind by Jinshi. That said, some of Gaoshun’s wholesome interactions with Maomao are the best in the anime, which his Japanese voice actor, Katsuyuki Konishi, pulled off so well.
4. Loulan

Voice Actor: Asami Seto | Other Notable Roles: Mai from Bunny Girl Senpai, Nobara from Jujutsu Kaisen
Another extremely complicated character in the anime is Loulan, though some people may still prefer to call her Shisui. Again, we didn’t know it at first, but she also had to play a double role in Season 2: one as Lady Loulan, one of the consorts, and the other as the cheerful palace maid Shisui. This duality, along with her other past revelations, was portrayed quite masterfully in the show.
5. Suirei

Voice Actor: Kaori Nazuka | Other Notable Roles: Nunnally from Code Geass
Suirei’s sharp tongue and strong personality aren’t easy to bring to life, but Kaori Nazuka didn’t hold back with her performance. As a strategist of the Shi clan, she left quite an impression on the narrative. Her character’s conclusion, especially when tied to the events of the Season 2 finale, made for an emotional rollercoaster. Even Loulan’s character received much of the spotlight because of her.
6. Lakan

Voice Actor: Takuya Kirimoto | Other Notable Roles: Cracker from One Piece, Thierry Morello aka Aiber from Death Note
Initially introduced as what seemed to be one of the series’ antagonists, Lakan later turned out to be one of the best supporting characters in the series. The reveal of his past and his connection to Maomao earned his character widespread praise. Some of the most memorable moments of his voice acting come in the later arcs, when Lakan openly shows his care for Maomao. Those scenes establish him as such a caring father figure.
7. Xiaolan

Voice Actor: Misaki Kuno | Other Notable Roles: Hawk from Seven Deadly Sins, Faputa from Made in Abyss
Probably the first friend Maomao made in the Inner Palace, Xiaolan’s character isn’t as complicated or plot-heavy as some of the others mentioned here. However, she truly shines through her innocence. As a young palace maid, she is the furthest thing from evil, and she genuinely feels like a child in the anime. Much of that is thanks to Misaki Kuno’s beautiful portrayal of the character.
8. Gyokuyou

Voice Actor: Atsumi Tanezaki | Other Notable Roles: Frieren from Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, Anya from Spy x Family
Lady Gyokuyou is literally multitalented, just like her Japanese voice actor. In the anime, Gyokuyou is a caring mother, a strict advisor to Jinshi and others, and a loving woman toward the Emperor. All of these aspects of her are portrayed perfectly through the phenomenal voice acting. This is exactly what you’d expect from someone of Atsumi Tanezaki’s caliber, who is also the voice behind Violet Evergarden, Frieren, and many other iconic anime characters.
9. Ah-duo

Voice Actor: Yuuko Kaida | Other Notable Roles: Tsukuyo from Gintama, Sylvia from Spy x Family
Ah-Duo’s role in the anime is that of a rigid individual. As later revealed to be the Emperor’s former consort and Jinshi’s biological mother, she maintains a calm, composed, yet commanding presence throughout the anime. Every time she speaks, there’s a sense of seriousness that you can truly feel. Therefore, much credit goes to Yūko Kaida for bringing this character to life so brilliantly.
10. Lishu

Voice Actor: Hina Kino | Other Notable Roles: Sui from Campfire Cooking in Another World
Lishu has always been the youngest and most innocent of the Emperor’s four consorts. In fact, her current role in the anime is a direct consequence of the past events that forced her into this position. As a result, she is often bullied in the palace, even by her own ladies-in-waiting, who are simply jealous of her. Maintaining the balance between her emotional vulnerability and her constant attempts to act according to her role makes the character quite difficult to portray. But Hina Kino ultimately did a phenomenal job bringing Lishu to life.
11. Lihua

Voice Actor: Yui Ishikawa | Other Notable Roles: Mikasa from Attack on Titan, Violet from Violet Evergarden
As one of the Emperor’s current consorts, Lihua arguably has the most majestic presence in The Apothecary Diaries. Her strong and commanding presence is perfectly complemented by her beauty, yet at the same time, you can often see her softer side whenever she talks to Maomao. All of this culminates in one of the most captivating characters in the series. And hats off to Yui Ishikawa for portraying her so brilliantly.
12. The Emperor

Voice Actor: Daichi Endou | Other Notable Roles: Twice from My Hero Academia
The Emperor might have gotten the least screen time among many of the other major characters, but his role is arguably the most important, as anyone can guess. Still, some of the moments involving the Emperor and Maomao are truly a breath of fresh air, and he never comes across as the ruthless ruler we initially assumed he was. This important role was portrayed well by Endo-san.
