The Batman: Robert Pattinson Wants The Court of Owls In Sequel
With just a few weeks remaining before The Batman hits theaters, the anticipation has reached its fervor peak. Directed by Matt Reeves, The Batman stars Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman alongside Zoe Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman. Joining the duo are Colin Farrell (The Penguin), Andy Serkis (Alfred Pennyworth), John Turturro (Carmine Falcone), Jeffery Wright (Jim Gordon), and Paul Dano (The Riddler). Studded with a stellar cast, The Batman is expected to be a noir-driven detective movie that explores Batman’s early crimefighting career. Ahead of its theatrical release, The Batman is expected to break the opening box office collections of all the previous Batman movies with all IMAX tickets being sold out in North America.
Set in the multiverse of DCEU, Reeves’ iteration of the Caped Crusader is not a part of the main continuity. As a result, The Batman is set in a realistic, gritty Gotham City. However, prior to the release of the movie, the director has mentioned his desire to plan a trilogy that will bring in more supervillains from the Dark Knight’s famous rogue gallery. Now, Robert Pattinson, who plays the lead role, has stated that he would like to have the Court of Owls in the sequel, if it happens.
As The Batman is expected to be a commercial success if box office projections are to be believed, Warner Bros. is most probably going to green-light the sequel in no time. Considering that the movie is heavily inspired by various critically acclaimed Batman comics, exciting new villains are surely on their way for the sequels. In a recent interview with Den of Geek, Robert Pattinson has revealed that he also wants Calendar Man to be a part of the movies, a clear indication towards The Long Halloween series.
“I’d love to do something like Court of Owls. There are elements of The Batman which are kind of horror and I think it really feels quite new for Batman.”
Matt Reeves’s The Batman is quite different from the previous live-action adaptations of the superhero in ways more than one. Instead of just relying on the character’s physical prowess, The Batman will explore the Dark Knight’s capability as a detective as he solves clues left by the Riddler throughout the movie. Similarly, the movie will also have a socio-political angle to it, focusing on the grim inequality and moral decadence that has permeated the city of Gotham, caused by its political and influential figures.
The inclusion of the Court of Owls in the said sequel sounds interesting as it gels easily with the tone set by the first movie. A secretive sinister society that wields a major chunk of power, the Court of Owls makes an exciting adversary for the Dark Knight in his crime-fighting crusade. Additionally, the secret society also pays close attention to Bruce Wayne in the comics as the billionaire uses his vast wealth and power to uplift Gotham to its real potential. Nevertheless, for the Court of Owls to actually appear on the big screen, The Batman must exceed expectations and set a benchmark in the superhero movie genre, like a few of its predecessors.
The Batman hits theaters on March 4, 2022.
