“The best girl got it”: Emily Blunt Has No Regrets After Losing Million Dollars Worth Marvel Paycheque
Emily Blunt might crave doing a more action-focused role after playing the rather subdued role of Kitty Oppenheimer in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer.
After seeing Blunt’s brilliant portrayal of the supportive wife of J. Robert Oppenheimer and how much she praised Nolan for carving that part for her, one might make the mistake of assuming she isn’t keen on taking center stage.
However, Blunt recently admitted she is very open to doing a sequel of her science fiction action Edge of Tomorrow. But if any of Blunt’s fans are hoping to see her in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s best to cool expectations.
Why Emily Blunt Missed Out On a Huge Marvel Role
Emily Blunt appeared on the Happy Sad Confused podcast during the promotions of Oppenheimer and took time to address rumors regarding her past and future roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The closest the Devil Wears Prada actress came to becoming a part of the iconic franchise was around 2010 when she was offered the role of Black Widow in Iron Man 2.
However, due to a contractual obligation to play the role of Princess Mary in Gulliver’s Travels, the British actress couldn’t commit to the Marvel Studios’ hit project, which racked up over $623 million worldwide. Meanwhile, Gulliver’s adventures failed to attract viewers, and the movie didn’t even reach half of Iron Man 2’s collection, failing to cross the $250 million mark.
Back in 2019, the 40-year-old admitted the situation was a bit of a “heartbreaker for me”, but in the podcast, she made sure to praise Scarlett Johansson – who eventually got the part – for her brilliant work. “Come on, the best girl got it,” she said.
Blunt jokingly revealed that she and Barbie sensation Ryan Gosling wear the fact they are yet to star as a superhero “as a badge of honor”. Her comments certainly cast doubts over her appearance in any future superhero project as well.
For now, it’s best to assume she’s likely to remain a part of the very limited list of high-profile names, which includes Leonardo DiCaprio, who has stayed away from such roles.
How Much Scarlett Johansson Has Made From Marvel Movies
Many cinephiles do believe there’s very little scope for real acting in superhero-based movies, and whether there’s any serious pride in not working in Marvel or DC movies remains up for debate, but one thing is certain, these franchises pay a lot.
Johansson has enjoyed a lot of success with her role as the deadly spy Black Widow/Natasha Romanoff.
After making her mark in 2010’s Iron Man 2, the 38-year-old went on to feature in six more Marvel movies, before ultimately getting a stand-alone Black Widow movie in 2021.
In total, the Don Jon star has made a staggering $80 million from her work in the Marvel franchise.
