The Boys Season 4: A Family Drama Where 2 Fathers Duke It Out Over 1 Superpowered Teenager
The wait is over, as The Boys season 4 is finally peeking at the horizon of Prime Video. Created by Eric Kripke, the man behind immensely successful shows such as Supernatural, The Boys is a satirical take on the superhero genre. Ever since it came out, it has amassed a loyal fanbase that only keeps growing with time.
There was a lengthy hiatus after The Boys season 3 came out due to the spin-off series Gen V. However, The Boys season 4 trailer is finally out and is slated to take center stage on Prime Video in 2024. It promises to be every bit as dramatic and R-rated as before.
The Boys season 4: a family drama about two fathers and a teenager?
The Boys season 4 will see Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso, Chace Crawford, Tomer Capone, Karen Fukuhara, Colby Minifie, Claudia Doumit, and Cameron Crovetti reprising their respective roles. In addition to them, there will be Susan Heyward, Valorie Curry, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan as new entries to the franchise.
The new trailer (via. YouTube/Prime Videos) for The Boys season 4 dropped on CCXP São Paulo, and it is quite an epic showdown. The director Eric Kripke stressed while talking to EW that Ryan’s (Cameron Crovetti) turn to the dark side is a plotline season 4 would focus on. Kripke said it would be a “tug of war” between Homelander and Butcher to get control over Ryan. However, all is not lost, as he hints that Butcher might be able to bring him back to the good side.
“I don’t think the game’s over yet. I think [Ryan] saw this one thing and I think we should all be afraid because if he becomes another Homelander, that’s obviously really bad for the planet. But he’s still Becca’s (Shantel VanSanten) kid and there’s still a shot that Butcher (Urban) can pull him into the light. [Season 4] will really be this tug of war over Ryan, as both men really try to get a grip on him.”

The last time the audience saw Ryan, it was with Homelander and his group of alt-right followers in The Boys season 3. The final shot showed Ryan giving the camera a smirk while the crowd applauded Homelander for executing a protestor. So, many thought that Ryan’s arc in the show had been sealed as an antagonist. However, after Eric Kripke’s comment about The Boys season 4, there are reasons to hope for the character.
The Boys season 4 trailer shows Homelander preparing for an election while the fate of superheroes in America becomes a controversial topic and every superhero is at stake.
Antony Starr from The Boys almost did not play Homelander due to his insecurities about Henry Cavill
Antony Starr portrays the psychopathic role of Homelander in The Boys TV series. The way he has made the role his own, it is almost impossible to think of any other person playing it in the blood-curdling way he does. He has gained massive critical acclaim for his acting prowess. However, fans would be surprised to know that he almost did not take on the role because of Henry Cavill.

Antony Starr was the first choice for Homelander, but he did not look at the script for weeks. It was during this time that Henry Cavill signed up as Superman for DC. According to Antony Starr, he felt like he would not be picked because Henry Cavill was superior in every way to him, especially in physical aspects. While talking to Metro, he recounted:
“My reps sent me the script through and said this is one we should look at. I was busy, I was working pretty much every hour under god sent and they called me a week later and said, “Have you read it?” I was like, “No, leave me alone – I’m busy.”
He continued:
“So I didn’t look at it for a week and a half and then I saw it was a superhero thing and I thought they’re not going to pick me anyway, I’m not made for that. Henry Cavill’s 12 feet tall, built like a 12 foot brick s**t house and he’s wonderful, handsome and charming – I’m not going to get that.”
Well, thankfully, he decided to record the audition tape in a basement, and before he knew it he was wearing the signature spandex of Homelander to the sets of The Boys. The world would have missed a truly amazing actor if he had not come around to the idea of playing a superhero and overcoming his insecurities.
The Boys is available to watch on Prime Videos.
