As per a review by Bloody Disgusting, The Curse of La Llorona is going to be a spin-off of The Conjuring. It has been confirmed, thanks to the involvement of Tony Amendola, playing the role of Father Perez from the first Annabelle film.
It’s still unknown if this was always meant to be a spin-off to The Conjuring, or if the film’s producers find a chance to connect an original film to a franchise. The connection is confirmed when Father Perez explains his experiences with a doll that’s possessed, affirming that the Curse of La Llorana took place after Annabelle.
The Curse of La Llorana Releases in April
The Curse of La Llorana will see the directorial debut of Michael Chaves, who will reign the main franchise in the future. It did make sense for Wan to help select tackle The Conjuring 3 now, aware that the director’s first film will help flesh out the whole lore of the franchise.
“While working closely with Chaves on The Curse of La Llorona, I got to know him as a filmmaker,” Wan explained. “Chaves’ ability to bring emotion to a story, and his understanding of mood and scares make him a perfect fit to direct the next Conjuring film.”

Wan’s influence on the whole franchise has been praised by Chaves too, who was thankful for the opportunity to narrate another Ed and Lorraine Warren adventure.
“I am a huge fan of the Conjuring films,” Chaves said. “The movies are the rare combination that deliver both tremendous heart and awesome scares. It is both a total thrill and absolute honor to be working with James and the gang at New Line again.”
Until now, we don’t know why Warner Bros and New Line Cinema has been so subtle about their connections to the Conjuring franchise. All the films have been box office hits and fans have loved them too.
‘The Curse of La Llorana’ will release on 19th April.
