“The fan base can be very attack-y”: Henry Cavill’s The Witcher Co-Star Blames the Fans for Liam Hemsworth Backlash
British actor Henry Cavill played the role of Geralt of Rivia in the Netflix series, The Witcher. Fans really admired Cavill’s work in the show and are not ready to accept Liam Hemsworth as his replacement. Fans never easily let go of the actor who played their favorite character and the one who comes in to substitute always faces the heat.
Liam Hemsworth is the subject of fans’ disapproval at the moment. Intense and biting, The Witcher is a drama series that brought its first episode on December 20, 2019. As of now, the show has come out with three seasons. Unfortunately, with the end of the third season, Henry Cavill also left the set permanently.
Fans Were Not Too Welcoming to Henry Cavill’s Replacement
With the exit of Henry Cavill from The Witcher, the one who is going to replace him as Geralt of Rivia is Liam Hemsworth. Acknowledged for his roles in Neighbours and The Elephant Princess, Australian actor Liam Hemsworth has been found worthy to play the role of Geralt in both the upcoming seasons of the Netflix series, The Witcher.
Although the official members found Hemsworth capable enough to replace Cavill, fans are a little adamant about the matter. Fans are unhappy about Cavill’s departure and are even more furious about Hemsworth replacing him. Therefore, Hemsworth is facing a lot of negative criticism from the fans which is an issue for the popularity of the show, as well as for the actor’s mental health.
However, Freya Allan, who plays the role of Princess Cirilla of Cintra in The Witcher, has stood up for Hemsworth in the difficult time. Allan blamed the fans for such an unhealthy atmosphere and for not giving Hemsworth the chance he deserved. She told Collider:
“I feel sorry for him, honestly, because, number one, that fan base can be very attack-y, and it’s not an ideal situation to be in taking up someone else’s role. But I’m really excited to see what he does.”
Fans should at least give one chance to Hemsworth so that the actor can prove what he is capable of. Although it’s natural on the part of fans to be a little biased, Allan’s argument in favor of Hemsworth is pretty logical too.
What’s Next for Cirilla and Geralt in The Witcher?
After Freya Allan came forward in favor of Liam Hemsworth, she also shared a few details about her individual role and her character’s interaction with Geralt in the upcoming seasons of The Witcher. Allan mentioned that although Geralt will significantly impact her character, she will pretty much be on her own.
In the upcoming season, both Geralt and Cirilla will be on their own journeys and won’t be interacting much on the screen. She told Collider:
“Not really, because our characters, all the storylines are going their separate ways this season. So it’s very much my own journey.”
Further, The Witcher will have two more seasons and Liam Hemsworth will play the role of Geralt in both of them. Interestingly, Hemsworth isn’t the only new character in the show. Actors like Laurence Fishburne, Danny Woodburn, Sharlto Copley, and James Purefoy are also going to be introduced in the upcoming seasons.
The Witcher is available for streaming on Netflix.
