The Witcher is one of the most famous franchises, be it in books, video games, or TV series. The main protagonist of this series is the “witcher,” a monster-hunter named Geralt of Rivia. Henry Cavill had been playing the role with utmost faithfulness till his sudden departure from the show. Fans all across the globe were distressed, to say the least.

Many reasons were speculated, like his upcoming projects as Superman in DCEU before James Gunn replaced him in Superman: Legacy. Director Marc Jobst once opened up to ScreenRant by saying how challenging and demanding the role was both physically and mentally, which might have been one of the leading factors behind the actor’s leaving. Although he has been replaced by Liam Hemsworth, Henry Cavill still lives in the head of the audience as Geralt of Rivia, rent-free.

This obsession with Cavill only got pumped up more when The Witcher creator also came out in support of Henry Cavill’s version of Geralt of Rivia and sent the fans into a frenzy on social media.

The Witcher creator about Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia

According to an interview by Beyond Pixels, Andrzej Sapkowski, the creator of The Witcher, came out in support of Henry Cavill and his version of Geralt of Rivia. He went on to say that whenever he imagines Geralt speaking, it is impossible to do so without envisioning Henry Cavill’s voice:

“I repeat, there are only letters [in my books]. But then I also saw the series from Netflix and I would say the voice of Cavill, that’s right for me. So my own idea of Geralt’s voice, that would be Cavill.”

This was not the first time he has been vocal about praising Henry Cavill and his performance. In a 2019 exclusive interview with People, he said:

“I was more than happy with Henry Cavill’s appearance as The Witcher. He’s a real professional. Just as Viggo Mortensen gave his face to Aragorn [in The Lord of the Rings], so Henry gave his to Geralt — and it shall be forever so.”

Fans took to social media, especially Twitter where Culture Crave reported on the interview. They went crazy in support, terming him “the GOAT” (Greatest Of All Time) and how “he was the “perfect one” for the role:

It is quite a feat to achieve as an actor when the creator of the franchise cannot seem to get enough of it.

Henry Cavill’s journey as the witcher

According to the interview of Marc Jobst with ScreenRant, Henry Cavill worked tirelessly to bring a perfect portrayal of the witcher Geralt of Rivia onto the screen. In the interview, he showered praises on Cavill’s dedication by saying:

“Henry does every single beat of his stunts, he won’t even allow a hand, if you’re doing a close up of a hand grabbing a sword, it has to be his hand. You’re working with an incredible athlete, first and foremost, who works out hours before, and hours after, you’ve been shooting for 12 hours, and who cares deeply about the work that he does.”

Henry Cavill was also one of the hardcore fans of the franchise. He is an ardent fan of the book series as well as the video games and therefore resonated more with the other fans of the franchise, as they probably saw him as one of their own. The fans got so involved that there was a Change.org petition about keeping Henry Cavill in the role somehow when he announced his departure. Needless to say, he is one of the most beloved actors in the franchise, and fans are still not ready to let go.

The Witcher is available to stream on Netflix.
