Mark Ronson Thanks Ryan Gosling at The Critics Choice Awards
While the writers were honored with the award, Mark Ronson thanked Ryan Gosling and the director of Barbie, Greta Gerwig for their contribution to making the 11-minute song happen. As reported by Billboard, while expressing his heartfelt gratitude, Ronson said:
“Ryan Gosling, this is as much your award as ours. You made the audience fall in love with this song with your matchless performance, so thank you.”
The writer also mentioned Gerwig, her husband Noah Baumbach, and co-producer Margot Robbie. He added:
“The fact that you carved out 11 minutes for this prog-rock, power-ballad, dream-ballet, shred fest so the boys could cry and hold hands a little too, we’re really forever in your debt for that.”
In a previous interview with Vanity Fair, Mark Ronson mentioned Gosling’s passion for I’m Just Ken, which led to the rewriting of the song. He said:
“He really got [that] it had to walk this line of not being funny or parody. But obviously, the song is also kind of ridiculous at times. So he was really amazing, and when he really did start hitting the big notes, I was like, ‘This dude is a vocal powerhouse!”
Considering the La La Land star’s contribution to Barbie and emerging as the most humorous Ken, Ryan Gosling did justice to the iconic character.
