Zack Snyder is one of the most proficient directors in the Hollywood filmmaking industry. He made his feature film debut in 2004 with the remake of the horror film Dawn of the Dead from a screenplay written by none other than the DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn. His very next project was the 2006 fantasy war film 300 which turned out to be a box office success.

Over the years, Zack Snyder has worked on some of the best projects of all time and is prominently known for the creation of the widely known Snyderverse. Despite all that he has achieved, his most recently released movie Rebel Moon has neither impressed the audience nor the critics.

In 2021, it was announced that Snyder was working on the movie Rebel Moon for Netflix. The movie was heavily inspired by Star Wars and legendary director, Akira Kurosawa‘s work. It is an epic space opera which is also known as Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire. It was released on Netflix on December 21, 2023, and Snyder fans are not too impressed as one of them wrote on X:

“Rebel Moon is so frustrating because the first 40-50 mins are fucking brilliant but then the nosedive it takes afterwards is insane.”

As already mentioned, Star Wars was a great source of inspiration for Rebel Moon. The question that arises here is how the former led to the creation of this new movie. During an interview with Screen Rant, Zack Snyder said:

“The eleven-year-old me fell in love with Star Wars. And then, as you grow up, I’ve been talking a lot about ’77 to ’87; that range of movies. That ten-year window for me was really influential because, from when you’re 11 years old to when you’re a sophomore in college, that’s your sweet spot where you get shaped.”

Snyder went on to say that the Star Wars films are what inspired this epic space film. There is also a director’s cut of this first part which sounds more promising than the one released.
