The Adventures of Tintin had not only impressive technical aspects but also a star-studded voice cast that included Jamie Bell, Andy Serkis, and Daniel Craig. According to The Numbers, the movie was made within a production budget of $135 million, and it made around $375 million in its worldwide box-office collections, which is around 2.9 times the production budget.

The decent box office and critical success of the movie motivated Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson to make a sequel. However, the project faced many setbacks and delays as it hit a number of issues and was speculated to be abandoned multiple times. It has been more than a decade since the first movie came out, and there has been no update about the sequel until now.

However, a recent revelation by Andy Serkis, who portrayed the character of Captain Haddock in the first movie, has revived hope and anticipation among the fans of Tintin. During an interview at the Annecy Film Festival, Serkis told French journalist Alexandre Loos that Peter Jackson is still working on the sequel.

Various media outlets and netizens online have expressed their opinions and excitement over this revelation by Serkis.

Peter Jackson was originally supposed to direct the sequel, but he has been in a state of hibernation for some time now. However, Serkis’ comment gives hope that the project is still far from dead. Although the details of the story and plot have not been revealed yet, it is speculated that the sequel will be based on the storylines of Prisoners of the Sun and The Seven Crystal Balls from the original comics.

The first film featured a star-studded cast, including Jamie Bell as Tintin, Andy Serkis as Captain Haddock, Daniel Craig as the villainous Red Rackham, and Simon Pegg and Nick Frost as the bumbling detectives Thompson and Thomson. It can be expected that the old cast members will again join the upcoming project.

As far as the directorial role is concerned, Jackson, with his proven track record of epic adventure films like The Lord of the Rings trilogy, King Kong, and many more, will be a promising aspect of the project.

Why Was The Adventures of Tintin 2 Delayed?

Although the reasons for the extremely long gap for The Adventures of Tintin 2 are still unknown, it is clear that the making of this sequel has been a passion project for the makers who worked on it. However, one major reason could be the long-term commitments to multiple projects by both the director and the producers.

Spielberg’s involvement in different projects, including the semi-autobiography film The Fabelmans and others like the Jurassic World franchise, Transformers, etc., and Jackson, who was heavily involved in the production of the The Lord of the Rings series, justifies the delay in the sequel.

Other than Serkis, Jamie Bell earlier gave an optimistic update that it is just a matter of time and a declaration by Jackson that the cast members will be ready for the project. In an interview with Forbes, he said,

He’s (Peter Jackson) always doing something, so if they said let’s get the band back together, we’d go do it. It’s going to be weird if I play Tintin at 45, but still, the technology allows it, so that’s fine.

Serkis’ words and Bell’s commitment to his role are some positive signs for The Adventures of Tintin 2. It might be a matter of time before the producers, directors, and cast members potentially clear their schedules and turn their attention to the franchise that fans have been longing for years.

The Adventures of Tintin is now streaming on Netflix, Prime Video, and Sony Liv.
