The Flash: New Set Photos Reveal DCEU’s First Supergirl Costume
Fans finally have the first look at one of the major costumes that are set to be featured in Warner Bros.’ forthcoming The Flash. For fans who are wondering, this costume belongs to Supergirl, who is all set to make her DCEU debut in the film.
The Supergirl costume, which was also shown off at the Licensing Expo this year, is a bit distinct from many versions that have appeared on TV or in a movie, possessing a much longer cape and sleeves wrapped around the thumb of the wearer. These images appeared online, thanks to Collider, and more are now available on its official website.
Supergirl Is Set To Debut In DCEU
In the DC Extended Universe, Supergirl will be portrayed by Sasha Calle, who expressed her enthusiasm for the opportunity to play the superhero recently. “Representation in the entertainment industry really matters, and I’m super honored, honestly [to be the first Latina Supergirl]… There was a moment when we were shooting, when Andy was like, ‘Hey, come over here and watch this scene on the playback monitor.’ And I go over and I see her [Supergirl], and she’s in her full glory. And suddenly, I got really emotional. Because I’m looking at that, and I’m like, ‘Wow, I wish I would have had this when I was little.’ It meant a lot to me.”
Calle Will Later Appear In Her Own Series
However, The Flash isn’t the only DCEU project that features the Supergirl. It was earlier reported that Calle will return as Supergirl in her very own series, which will air on HBO Max, alongside Michael Keaton’s version of Batman. However, there is one superhero that will not be appearing, as per the reports, is Superman, whose DCEU status is currently unknown.
The only successful depiction of Supergirl in popular media has been by Melissa Benoist who has starred as the titular character in Supergirl since the year 2015. The series aired on CBS before it moved to The CW. Before this, the character played a very vital role in Smallville between the years 2007 and 2008, where she was played by Laura Vandervoort.
The Flash will hit the theaters on June 23, 2023.
