James Gunn has finally brought his Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy to its final destination with the release of the third volume. The second entry into Phase 5 of the MCU, GOTG Vol 3 is considered one of the best MCU films ever. It was both a critical and commercial success, receiving great appreciation from the audience, who called it a very fitting end to the trilogy. GOTG Vol 3 also marks the last Marvel film to be directed by James Gunn, as he has now moved on to be the co-CEO of DC Studios along with Peter Safran.

James Gunn On Striking Balance Between Emotions and Humor In Guardians Of The Galaxy

Marvel Cinematic Universe’s ragtag band of misfits has completed their pursuit with Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 3 ending the Guardians Of The Galaxy or GOTG trilogy. According to director James Gunn, one of the tough points was to keep the film tonally fluid so that the use of humor does not undercut the dark and serious moments in the film.

Talking about his vision behind the trilogy, Gunn said, “The first film is the story of the mother, the second film is the story of the father, and this film is the story of the self, so it’s innately more intimate because of that.”

Guardians of the Galaxy is a 2014 superhero film, based on the Marvel Comics superhero team of the same name.

Discussing the simultaneous prevalence of emotional weight and humor in the film, Gunn explained, “When you go back to the first movie, you see that tonal shifts have been a part of this franchise from the very beginning. It was really important to me that the films were fluid tonally. The humor is incredibly important, but I also didn’t want to undercut any emotion with a joke. So, it was important for me to allow the humor and the characters to be funny because they are funny characters and get into funny situations, but also to allow the emotion to really play out and not be ashamed of that emotion.”

The trilogy is famous for its mix of comedy, action, and character development, as well as emotional depth and storytelling characteristics.

Is There A Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 4 On Cards?

In just over a year, James Gunn is back in the theatrical spotlight with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, the third and final movie in the trilogy he started back in 2014. While the Guardians’ future in the MCU is largely a mystery after this film, Vol. 3 is serving as the end of the story for various storylines featuring the galactic misfits from the last few years. Even though the director had already said there would be no Vol 4, the post-credit scene ignited an expectation in the audience’s mind.

But Gunn has again attempted to shut down such expectations with his latest tweet. So, one of the fans asked, as quoted in The Direct, “‘Guardians 3’ best Marvel movie so far…do 4!!! PLEASE!!!” To which, James Gunn gave a disappointing answer and said, “I think I’ll leave it at 3, sorry (but thank you)” Well, now it is clear that the director does not wish to expand the trilogy. In his November 2022 interview, Gunn had left the audience hanging but this time it is crystal clear about no such upcoming addition.
