It’s been more than a week since the official trailer of The Idea of You came out, and with the release came mixed reviews from fans. After witnessing the 16-year age gap, there emerged a division between viewers, as many seem to embrace the idea, while others are dragging Anne Hathaway to receive appreciation for her timeless beauty.
However, what has gained more attention is that their real ages don’t align with the characters from the original novel, and even in the film. The Idea of You will depict Solène as a 40-year-old woman who, after getting divorced, goes to Coachella with her daughter. This is when the single mother’s life would take a U-turn as she will find love in a stunning and fan-favorite 24-year-old singer of a boyband.
During the production of Anne Hathaway’s film in 2022, the actress was 39-year-old and the Bottoms actor almost turned 28, as his birthday came before the Devil Wears Prada star. So, the film features a 16-year age gap, while the characters in the book have a 19-year gap, and the actors in real life have a shorter age gap of 12 years compared to the book and their film.

Anne Hathaway and her co-star Nicholas Galitzine looked awesome at their film’s SXSW world premiere, where the stars, along with fans, expressed excitement for The Idea of You to come out. The Get Smart star talked about self-discovery and continues to experience growth even if she’s 41 years old.
According to a post shared on X (earlier Twitter), Anne Hathaway said:
“I don’t want to be pigeonholed and placed in a box of what type of films I have to be making because of my age, gender, and because I won an Oscar. I want to have fun, dammit. It speaks to me.”
While the actress continues to enjoy her acting career and make unique films, Nicholas Galitzine also shared his thoughts on making The Idea of You. As revealed by the actor himself, he immediately found a “spiritual” connection with Anne Hathaway during the audition process.
