Created by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann for HBO, the American post-apocalyptic drama TV series The Last of Us premiered in January 2023. Featuring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, the first season of the show is based on the 2013 action-adventure game of the same name that was developed by Naughty Dog and published by Sony Computer Entertainment.
The first season of the show has a total of 9 episodes and was produced by Greg Spence and Cecil O’Connor. Although the show was a hit with critics and audiences alike, some fans have often criticized the show for its poor casting as far as the role of Ellie is concerned.
Fans Have Finally Discovered the Actress Who Would Have Been the Perfect Ellie in The Last of Us
There’s no doubt that The Last of Us has impressed the fans as well as the critics. The show has many awards to its name, including 8 Primetime Emmy Awards out of 24 nominations. Despite the popularity and critical appreciation, the show still got criticized for just one decision.
Fans trolled the show heavily due to the poor casting of one of its characters, Ellie. Initially, it was believed that Bella Ramsey was far from the character of Ellie. Instead of Ramsey, fans strongly believe that Priscilla star, Cailee Spaeny, should have been cast in the series.
The main reason fans go for Spaeny is her close resemblance with the character in the video game. A fan on Instagram shared parallels of the actress’ striking resemblance to Ellie from the video game. Many fans agreed that Spaeny would indeed have been a great fit for the role.

Bella Ramsey Once Responded to The Casting Criticism That She Faced
Fans have turned a little brutal with their criticism regarding Bella Ramsey playing the role of Ellie even though she is nowhere near the character in terms of physical attributes. Ramsay faced a chain of trolls before responding to the matter.
The actress told The New York Times that that was the first time she was being targeted with negative comments regarding her appearance and other qualities. She developed a type of addiction to reading all those comments to the point that she would start regretting it. In fact, she was having a hard time digesting any of the positive ones.
There would be times I’d find it funny… then I’d get to the end of a 10-minute scrolling session, put my phone down and realize: Maybe that was a bad idea.
However, showrunners Druckmann and Mazin claimed she was perfect for the role. In fact, Druckmann said that her acting tape was so good that he was convinced that she was Ellie and not Ramsey acting to be Ellie.
