The actress is starring in Niki Caro’s upcoming film The Mother, where she is seen playing the role of an assassin. Netflix recently dropped the trailer of the film The Mother, which will premiere on Netflix this May. The film is directed by Niki Caro, who has also made Disney’s live-action movie Mulan.

Niki Caro is an award-winning director known for making Disney’s action film Mulan. In an interview with People, Caro said that her movie The Mother is a rare amalgamation of high-power action and real emotions, and Jennifer Lopez was a perfect fit for this challenging role. The 56-year-old director said,
“The only thing that surprised me was that Jennifer hadn’t been an action movie hero her entire career. Jennifer brings her legendary skill and precision to the action elements but also brings her strength as a dramatic actor and her experience as a mother right to the heart of the movie. I knew Jennifer was the only actress for the role.”
The story of the film revolves around the mother, who is a former assassin who left her family behind and now returns to protect her daughter from an unexpected threat. While talking about the upcoming film, Caro said,
“Oftentimes, mothers in movies are appendages to other, more interesting characters. This time the mother is front and centre, and she is badass. Having Jennifer Lopez in the role, at the height of her powers, is a gift to mothers and audiences everywhere.”
