The Razzies Awards: Vin Diesel, Ana de Armas, or Jennifer Lopez Might Win the Worst Actor of the Year Award
While the likes of Oscars and Emmys recognize the best works in Hollywood movies and TV shows, there are the Golden Raspberry Awards that aspire to highlight the worst works and performances in the industry. Also known as the Razzies, they release nominations and then finally bestow the awards on people and movies in a considerable ceremony. The awards were established by UCLA film graduates and film industry veterans John J. B. Wilson and Mo Murphy.
44th Golden Razzies Nominations
The ‘coveted’ Razzies awards are decided by 1,179 movie buffs, film critics, and journalists from 49 U.S. states and two dozen foreign countries. In the male category, Russell Crowe from The Pope’s Exorcist, Vin Diesel from Fast X, Chris Evans from Ghosted, Jason Statham from Meg 2: The Trench and Jon Voight from Mercy have been nominated for Worst Actor this year.
The female category’s nominations for Worst Actor include Ana de Armas from Ghosted, Megan Fox from Johnny & Clyde, Salma Hayek from Magic Mike’s Last Dance, Jennifer Lopez from The Mother, and Dame Helen Mirren from Shazam! Fury of the Gods. It is notable to point out that some of these actors have also been nominated for Oscars Academy Awards in their lifetime. It just goes on to show how one bad performance can mark actors for life and tilt their filmography.
The nominations for the Razzies were unveiled earlier this week with the movie Expen4bles topping the chart with the most mentions, the most notable one being Worst Picture. A video announcing the nominations has also been released by the foundation. Other movies, second and third, in nominations were Exorcist: Believer and Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey.
Other categories in the awards include Worst Director, Worst Supporting Actor/Actress, Worst Screenplay, Worst Rip-off/Sequel, and Worst Screen Couple. The awards go all out with their nominations and leave no stone unturned. Unfiltered and confident in their approach, they stop at nothing to showcase who was the worst performing actor or movie in the industry that year.
43rd Golden Razzies Results
Ana De Armas’ Blonde topped the nominations last year as it earned eight nominations and two wins – for worst picture and worst screenplay. Colson Baker (aka Machine Gun Kelly) and Mod Sun won the Worst Director award for their work in Good Mourning. The Worst Actress category sparked quite a stir last year when it was awarded to twelve-year-old Ryan Kiera Armstrong for the Firestarter remake.
The Razzies faced backlash for this decision as the awards can affect a child’s future in movies and also subject them to bullying. Many actors came together to denounce the decision, and ultimately, the Worst Actress award went to The Razzies for “Their 43rd Worst Actress Nominations Blunder”.
