It seems like Chris Rock is in demand after the recent drama that occurred at the Oscars. He is expected to host next year’s Oscars and sources suggest that Chris Rock was also asked to host the Primetime Emmys on NBC this September along with Dwayne Johnson.
Will they host the Primetime Emmy Awards?
Dwayne Johnson, who has hosted the Oscars twice in 2005 and 2016, reportedly declined the informal offer to host the Primetime Emmy Awards while Chris Rock is expected to host the event. Both Chris Rock and Dwayne Johnson have worked with NBC in the past. During the initial stage of his career, Chris Rock was a cast member on Saturday Night Live, while Dwayne Johnson is an executive producer on the network’s comedy series Young Rock, which is inspired by his life.
Emmy producers are still looking for a host
Sources say Emmy producers Done+Dusted and Hudlin Entertainment are reportedly aiming high this year in determining a host. Although, NBC/Peacock talent is still expected to be considered as stars from the network hosting the Emmys is a tradition. Last year, the Emmys were hosted by Cedric The Entertainer from CBS’ The Neighborhood and in 2020 Jimmy Kimmel took on the hosting duties.
Chris Rock didn’t seem to enjoy his last hosting job
Earlier this year, when Chris Rock was hosting the Oscars, his “joke” on Jada Smith’s bald look didn’t sit well with Will Smith. Will Smith then went on the stage and slapped Chris Rock and ended up winning an Oscar for Best Actor for his role in King Richards. Chris Rock made a joke about Jada Smith’s hairstyle which was the result of her alopecia condition. He compared her to G.I. Jane who also portrayed a similar look in the film.
