“The worst experience was getting covered in f*king hair from head to toe”: Kaley Cuoco Hated Her Role in Big Bang Theory While Filming a Bizarre Episode
The Big Bang Theory is an American sitcom with over 270 episodes and 12 seasons in its runtime. It is one of the most watched and successful shows. Some people might remember enjoying it with their parents after dinner. People loved the character, Sheldon, a nerd played by Jim Parsons. So much so it was later made into a spinoff show on its own titled Young Sheldon. Johnny Galecki as Leonard Hofstadter and Penny, a dumb blonde wanna-be actress, played by Kaley Cuoco were also instant fan favorites. The show created a vivid fan base for itself as soon as the pilot aired.
Due to its huge runtime, there have been many moments that fans absolutely adore, and some not so fun moments that came along with it. Similarly, there were scenes that the actors on the show loved or hated doing. One such incident shared by Kaley Cuoco was recently revealed to the audience.
The Serial Ape-ist plotline
Penny was portrayed as a struggling actor, thus, she never let a job go no matter how horrible it seemed. Kaley Cuoco absolutely hated this recurring joke. The Serial Ape-ist and its sequel, Serial Ape-ist 2: Monkey See, Monkey Kill, were low-budget horror movies that Kaley Cuoco’s character stared in. Everyone gets to know about these movies from Kaley Cuoco’s character in the seventh season. She confesses that she once did a top-less scene in a film that never saw the light of day.
Later on, on the show, we see Kaley Cuoco’s character being offered a job for a sequel.
“The worst experience was filming Serial Apeist and getting covered in f–king hair from head to toe.” she says in the book The Big Bang Theory: The Definitive, Inside Story of the Epic Hit Series.
Kaley Cuoco further added,
“I was like, ‘Really, you guys? This is what’s happening?’ And Chuck just thought it was so funny. He loved it. I never understood why,”she said conveying her disbelief.
Despite Cuoco saying that the show creator, Chuck Lorre hated it equally if not more.
“Doing a show within a show — writing the ‘bad’ scenes that she’s in, in an otherwise good show — was not our finest moment. The goal was legitimate, which was to put her in a bad move and see her struggling to make something work,” Chuck Lorre said.
Fans too agree with this statement and believe it is not that great of a moment in the show.
How did Kaley Cuoco land her role in The Big Bang Theory?
Nobody can imagine can Penny’s character being portrayed by someone else other than Kaley Cuoco. Jodi Lyn O’Keefe had initially landed the role to play Penny. But after she was abruptly fired from the show many actresses jumped in to fill the shoes of Penny. Actresses such as Marisa Tomei, Elizabeth Berkley, Tara Reid, and Amanda Walsh, auditioned for the role but it Kaley Cuoco who got it.
Although Kaley Cuoco wasn’t the first choice, she was the best one of course. She received a number of awards and was critically acclaimed for this role, getting her two People’s Choice Awards, a Critics’ Choice Award, and more.
Although fans are eagerly waiting for The Big Bang Theory reunion, it is too soon according to Kunal Nayyar, who played Raj Koothrappali on the show.
