“Their friendship won’t survive this”: Angelina Jolie Turned Down Celine Dion’s Request To Play Her Biopic To Honor Late Husband, Left Singer Devastated Amidst Stiff Person Syndrome
Singer Celine Dion has always admired her bond with her husband, René Angélil. Over the years, she has mentioned several times that she would like to see a biopic that specifically portrays her relationship with her husband. The two got married in 1994, but unfortunately, René Angélil died in 2016. The singer posted a tribute earlier this year expressing her love for her husband.
The singer also knew which actress was perfect to play her role in the movie. Actress Angelina Jolie was approached to play the part, however, the actress politely declined the offer.
The film is in the works
Singer Celine Dion‘s biopic is in the works as she has approved the project and has also given the production the rights to use her hits like My Heart Will Go On, The Power Of Love, and All By Myself in the movie. The title is expected to be The Power Of Love. The film will cover her childhood, her rise in the music industry, and her relationship with her husband and manager René Angélil, who sadly passed away from throat cancer in 2016. The film will be directed by French actress turned-director Valerie Lemercier.
Angelina Jolie doesn’t want to play Celine Dion in the film
Over the years, actress Angelina Jolie and Celine Dion have maintained their friendship. The actress’ kids were once spotted wearing the singer’s clothing line CELINUNUNU and sources said that “she respects where Celine Dion is coming from.”
However, when Angelina Jolie was approached to play the singer in the film, she declined the offer claiming that she is “too busy.” Even though the reason was valid, Celine Dion was disheartened to hear the news. A source claimed,
“Their friendship surely won’t survive this, and after losing out on a leading lady of Angie’s level, this may be the end of the project altogether.”
The singer believed Angelina Jolie was perfect for the role. Dion also recently revealed that she has been suffering from a rare neurological condition.
Celine Dion suffers from Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS)
Singer Celine Dion revealed on her Instagram recently that she is suffering from a rare neurological disorder called Stiff-person syndrome (SPS). The condition has forced her to cancel her upcoming shows as the condition causes rigidity and spasms in the trunk and limbs. She said in the video,
“I’ve been dealing with problems with my health for a long time, and it’s been really difficult for me to face these challenges and to talk about everything that I’ve been going through. Recently I have been diagnosed with a very rare neurological syndrome, which affects something like one in a million people.”
The singer revealed that the condition has halted her career as she is no longer able to sing like she once used to. Her upcoming shows have been canceled or delayed until she gets proper treatment.
