“There was no infidelity, nothing”: Reason Behind Jennifer Garner’s Divorce With Her Ex-husband
After being married for nearly four years, Jennifer Garner and Scott Foley divorced in 2004. And now after almost two decades, their split is still making headlines. Back then, media outlets presented rumors of infidelity, the couple feeling “trapped” and “growing apart” as reasons for their divorce.
However, long after their divorce, Jennifer Garner and Scott Foley admitted to ending things in an amicable way. Nevertheless, Garner experienced heartbreak and sought professional help and therapy to move on. Meeting new partners and moving on from their past, Garner and Foley always denied any and all claims of unfaithfulness.
Jennifer Garner And Scott Foley’s Divorce
Revisiting the early 2000s, it’s safe to say that fans won’t ever feel the same about Jennifer Garner and her relationship with Scott Foley. Meeting on the set of Felicity, and hitting it off instantly, Garner and Foley soon started dating. After dating for a couple of years, the pair got married in 2000. However, within a few years of their marriage, the couple called it quits in 2004, considering themselves the “victims of Hollywood”.
Citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for their divorce, the couple claimed to end things on an amicable note. Following their divorce, Scott Foley got engaged to his then-girlfriend Marika Domińczyk and married her in 2007. While Jennifer Garner had a tough time moving on from Foley, she met Ben Affleck soon after her divorce and married again in 2005. Garner is currently in an on-and-off relationship with John Miller, after her divorce from Affleck in 2018.
Reasons Behind Ending Their Marriage
Heartbroken after her first failed marriage, Jennifer Garner had difficulty moving on from the mess. However, tying the knot in 2000 and finalizing their divorce in 2004, the couple spoke separately about their split. Commenting on their separation, both actors clarified the absence of scandal, infidelity, or foul play in their marriage.
Stating “growing apart” as the reason behind their divorce, Scott Foley appeared for an interview with TV Guide. “There was no other relationship, there was no infidelity, nothing. People get divorced, you know? Through no one’s fault and everyone’s fault,” the actor mentioned. Following his interview, even Garner stated similar reasons for their divorce.
Although the actress was vague on the details, she mentioned,
“I had a lot of growing up to do. I’m still conflict-averse. I don’t like to argue. But back then I couldn’t have a fight…It was a huge heartbreak for me to have something fail like that.”
Recalling her self-blaming attitude, Garner mentioned,
“I thought, ‘Why did this relationship not work? What part of the failure is my responsibility?’ So I went to work on it. I started therapy.”
Although it took her some time to get over her marital troubles, Jennifer Garner became strong and self-aware after therapy.
