How Johnny Depp Fell for Vanessa Paradis
Johnny Depp has a penchant for falling in love swiftly. During the late 80s, he reportedly dated Dirty Dancing star Jennifer Grey for only two weeks before proposing to her.
The 90s saw Depp date Winona Ryder. He purportedly fell in love with her at first sight and even went on to famously tattoo Ryder’s name on his arm during their four-year romance which made plenty of news during the time.
Similarly, he took little time in surrendering to Vanessa Paradis’s charm. He met with the French actress in Paris where he was shooting for the movie The Ninth Gate.
“She was wearing a dress with an exposed back and I saw that back and that neck, and then she turned around and I saw those eyes, and — boom,” he described the moment he saw Paradis to The Daily Mail.
Clearly, Paradis’ mesmerizing neck proved too much for Depp to handle and he remained star-struck with it for 14 years before the couple parted ways in 2012. Their relationship saw two children, including The Idol sensation Lily-Rose Depp.
What Led to Johnny Depp Kissing Amber Heard While He Was Still With Vanessa Paradis
The 60-year-old’s tendency to give his heart away at speed didn’t stop at Paradis, eventually leading him to his life’s most controversial and murkiest relationship.
During the filming of The Rum Diary in 2009, he met Amber Heard, who played his love interest in the romance drama. Subsequently, a steamy scene in the movie led Depp to experience unwanted feelings. He recalled:
“There was a scene where I’m taking a shower, and then she comes into the room. She comes into the room, opens the shower, and we kiss. It felt like something that I shouldn’t be feeling because she had her wife, and I had Vanessa.”
But the feelings didn’t just stop after the cameras went away. Depp continued:
“I think there was something in the kiss, in the shower that was very real. So, that day after work, Ms. Heard had come to my trailer, and I was just sitting there listening to old Blues stuff. We had a glass of wine, and we kissed. At that point, my trailer was the only trailer in the parking lot. She had a mind to stay in the trailer, and I didn’t think that was a very good idea on any level.”
The actor suggested that was as far as the two went. Now, whether just the kiss can be constituted as cheating is something we’ll leave up to the readers to decide. However, Depp broke up with Paradis in 2012, and later he insisted his hectic career played a part in the separation.
Interestingly, soon after he started dating Heard before marrying her in 2015. The Rest, as they say, is history!
