“There’s definitely tension between them”: ‘Landman’ Star Kayla Wallace Drops Huge Hint that Show Could Follow a Messy Yellowstone Storyline

Created by Taylor Sheridan and Christian Wallace, Landman is a neo-Western story set in West Texas based on a podcast, Boomtown, hosted by Christian Wallace. The story goes on to explore a modern-day tale of fortune-seeking in the world of oil rigs. Actors such as Billy Bob Thornton, Demi Moore, Ali Larter, Kayla Wallace, and more star in the series.

The ten-episode series premiered with two episodes on November 17, 2024, and will conclude on January 12, 2025. Upon release, the series received generally favorable reviews from critics and the audience. Actress Kayla Wallace recently spoke about being a part of the series and working with Sheridan on building her character.

Kayla Wallace says it was fascinating for her to dive into the legal world for Landman

Actress Kayla Wallace plays Rebecca Falcone, a whip-smart and cunning attorney who is investigating a case involving a stolen plane filled with drugs that was reportedly destroyed by a speeding oil tanker truck. The actress has been praised for her performance in the series, and in a recent interview with Decider, she shared what it was like to be a part of the show. She said,

I initially auditioned for Ainsley, Tommy Norris’ daughter. Ultimately, my journey with Taylor [Sheridan] and the producers led me to Rebecca, for which I’m so grateful. My character journey started in one direction and then totally shifted to a completely different role.

The actress added that for her it was fascinating to dive into the legal world, adding that all the women in Landman are strong, but Rebecca is also very driven. She noted that her character is also very clever and quick on her feet. During the conversation, Wallace was asked if she got a chance to work on the backstory of her character with Taylor Sheridan.

Kayla Wallace added that she was lucky enough to get some time to work on her character with Sheridan and map Rebecca Falcone out. She explained that they talked about her childhood, why she is the way she is, and why she is a hard worker and a successful lawyer.

Wallace mentioned that the conversations helped her to understand why Rebecca Falcone makes the decisions she does, and she is very excited for the audience to watch her on-screen.

Kayla Wallace teases one theory in Landman that has Yellowstone written all over it

The actress was asked during the interview if her character, Rebecca Falcone, has a romantic interest in Tommy Norris, played by Billy Bob Thornton. Kayla Wallace replied:

There’s definitely tension between them from episode one, right off the bat. I think she’s fascinated by this whole world and this family. They operate in unfamiliar ways. She’s intrigued by Tommy and why he does the things he does.

Wallace further added that Tommy is unfiltered in contrast to her, who is very strategic in what she says and the choices she makes. The actress shared that Billy Bob Thornton is an awesome person to work with, adding that he’s very grounded and down to earth. She noted that their characters had tension from the start, and it was interesting to work with him to build that up.

Now, Wallace’s admission of Falcone and Norris having some sort of tension between them reminds me of Summer Higgins’ involvement with John Dutton in Yellowstone. The pair became romantically linked, but their romance was cut short after Higgins landed her a stiff prison sentence in Season 4.

But in Season 5, John Dutton grants her clemency, and she’s stuck on house arrest at the ranch. It has been known that Beth Dutton does not like Summer Higgins, and they had a blowout fight on the lawn as well.

Rebecca Falcone in Landman gets along well with Tommy Norris’ ex-wife and daughter, but if there is a sense of romantic interest involved between Norris and Falcone, things could get messy. Wallace shared that Falcone might have been friends with Angela (ex-wife) and Ainsley (daughter), but she is being cautious because she does not know these people, and she is gathering all the information she can.

Wallace noted that there is so much more in store for Falcone.
