“They can’t use Deadpool but they can use Spider-Man?”: Beau DeMayo’s Recent Revelation About X-Men’ 97 Upsets Marvel Fans
Marvel fans are disappointed to know that Deadpool wouldn’t be making a cameo in the new X-Men ’97 series on Disney+. The show’s creator, Beau DeMayo, revealed that Deadpool was off-limits for the show, even though they’ve managed to sneak in other characters like Captain America.
Fans were really surprised by this news, especially since the X-Men ’97 show has been bringing in all sorts of cameos, but not Deadpool, a character that is so closely tied to the X-Men universe.
Even characters like Doctor Doom, who haven’t appeared in the MCU yet, are in the series. Spider-Man, a character with a more complex ownership history due to Sony’s involvement, also managed to snag a cameo. So, it was a letdown for fans hoping to see the Merc with a Mouth in action.
Beau DeMayo’s Recent Revelation about Deadpool Disappointed Fans
Recently, Beau DeMayo confirmed Deadpool’s absence in X-Men ’97 when a fan directly asked about the character. In response to a fan (@zerowontmiss) asking the showrunner on X, “Where is Deadpool at?” The 41-year-old replied, “Yeah, he was off-limits.” This is surprising given how packed X-Men ’97 has been with cameos.

Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are no strangers to characters being restricted from certain projects. Ownership rights often play a big role in this. For instance, characters like the Fantastic Four were missing from the first two seasons of What If…? (the series that explored alternate MCU storylines).
It is because Marvel wanted them to debut first in live-action movies. This also happened with Kraven the Hunter in Spider-Man: No Way Home, where Sony wanted to use the villain in their own films.
Why No Deadpool in X-Men ’97?
One fan questioned, if they can bring Spider-Man, then why not Deadpool in the X-Men ’97?
They cant use deadpool but they can use Spider-Man!? This doesnt make sense💀

While the reason for his absence remains a mystery, one thing’s for sure: it’s not because of rights issues with the character being an X-Men property (which Disney now owns).
A fan speculated on X that Marvel might be holding off on Deadpool’s cameo in the show because of the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine project. It’s possible that Marvel wants to carefully introduce Deadpool into the MCU through this specific film. Another idea is that Deadpool’s story might not match with the multiverse theme of X-Men ’97.
Though it’s now confirmed that the character will not feature in the Disney+ series, fans can look forward to seeing Deadpool and Wolverine team up in live-action in the upcoming movie. Ryan Reynolds will be reprising his role as Deadpool, while Hugh Jackman will be returning as Wolverine.
Season 1 of X-Men ’97 is wrapping up with its 10th episode airing on May 15th. Don’t miss out on the finale – catch the show on Disney+!
