“They gotta play one side of the floor”: Tom Brady’s GOAT Status Questioned By NBA Legend LeBron James Amidst His Personal Crisis and Failing Mental Health
Tom Brady has been in the headlines a lot more than he would have wanted, and for almost all the bad reasons. His impending and possible divorce from his wife of 13 years, Gisele Bündchen has been the talk of the town. And the most prominent reason for the NFL power couple’s split is the Tampa Bay Buccaneer quarterback’s unretiring.
Brady has whole-heartedly dedicated himself to his 23-year career and is even willing to sacrifice his marriage for it. Therefore, it might come as a shock to the Super Bowl winner that LeBron James questioned his seemingly hard-earned GOAT status.
LeBron James questioned Tom Brady’s style of playing
The question mark was raised by the NBA star’s partner Maverick Carter, who claimed that the one thing that defines greatness is prolonged persistence. According to James, although Brady is a legendary football player, he can only play one side of the ball.
He said,
“My only argument with a football player being the greatest athlete of all time is that they only gotta play one side of the floor, man. Yes, Brady is unbelievable. Brady is the greatest quarterback I’ve ever seen, but he affects the game one way. Just as a basketball player, and the pounding that you take and running both sides… Oh s**t, I gotta get back on offense. Oh, s**t, I gotta get back on defense.’ As physical as football is — and to the body, I know it’s crazy to the body — but for a quarterback, [Bill] Belichick has done a great job of implementing those five guys in front to protect that asset.”
The 7-time Super Bowl winner might not take very well to this constructive criticism as he is already suffering from mental health issues amidst ugly divorce proceedings with the Brazilian supermodel.
Tom Brady is suffering from acute stress
The father of 3 opened up about the “intense amount of stress” he has experienced over his 23-year career on the Let’s Go! Podcast with Jim Gray and Larry Fitzgerald. He said,
“Everyone has different situations in their lives and children, and you worry about their mental health. You worry about your parents [and] obviously yourself. I think I’ve had to learn a lot of things over a long period of time in sports. I think there’s an intense amount of stress that we all deal with, and how do you relieve stress so that you’re not inflicting so much damage on yourself through kind of stress response? So [it’s] something that I’ve always continued to try to work through, and it’s obviously a challenge for me and different forms of whether it’s physical therapy or mental therapy, all those things I’ve definitely done over the years.”
Tom Brady recently announced a Major League Pickleball expansion team investment with Kim Clijsters.
