American Idol sensation Adam Lambert talked about how ABC reacted after he kissed his bass player on the stage. On November 2009, the singer performed his hit song For Your Entertainment at the American Music Awards. While explaining his kiss moment on stage with his Bass player, Lambert said,

“I was kind of sexy, and had dancers on stage, and I did a couple of suggestive moves with a couple of dancers, and an impromptu kiss with my bass player.”

He further added,

“I was feeling it. Well, I got off stage and I got in trouble. The network was like, ‘How dare you?'”

ABC was shocked by the on-stage kiss because many people were antagonistic to the LGBTQI community at the time. Following Lambert’s on-stage kiss, the media outlet got 1500 phone calls, leading them to cancel the 41-year-old’s performance on Good Morning America.

Lambert’s on-stage kiss canceled many of his upcoming appearances at the moment. According to rumors, ABC also canceled his appearances on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve. Lambert was also threatened by the news outlet. The singer stated in a statement,

“They threatened me with a lawsuit. It was like, ‘Oh, okay, that’s where we’re at.’ I didn’t know. I’d been in a bubble in LA amongst artists, weirdos, and I didn’t realize that that kind of thing would ruffle feathers the way it did.”

The Believe singer criticized the news outlet for their behavior towards him and said it was unfair to him as a gay artist. He also spoke about the double standards faced by the LGBTQI community in the industry. ABC had shown the moment of Britney Spears and Madonna kissing on stage but they were averse to Lambert’s kiss because he kissed a man of the same sex. A Spokesperson from The Early Show said,

“The Early Show’s decision this morning to blur Adam Lambert’s kiss from the American Music Awards reinforces an unfortunate double standard that is applied to openly gay performers.”

Many people supported Lambert when his upcoming performances were canceled by ABC because of the moment on stage. People from the LGBTQIA community also grilled ABC for their unfair behavior towards the singer
