The Saturday Night Live Twitter post announced last week that Dave Chappelle would host this week’s program with musical guest Black Star on November 12. The actor has made guest appearances on the show twice and this time will be his third as host.

The actor got a platform at NBC and is getting major attention, especially from the staff though not in a good light. This announcement has led to unrest among the staff writers who are getting furious over the recent decision.

The reason behind their opposition is the comedian’s history who has made transphobic and homophobic jokes and facing heavy backlash for the same.

An insider told PageSix that the staff writers will be sitting out of the episode, “They’re not going to do the show. The report also shared, “But none of the actors are boycotting.”

However, the comedy star’s rep shared a different narrative of the same story.

The 49-year-old comedian’s rep told the outlet that when the star was at 30 Rock on Tuesday meeting with writers and producers, there was “no evidence of a boycott.”

“The room was full of writers. They all pitched ideas and they seemed very excited about it…. Dave is looking to have some fun,” the rep told the outlet.

The news about the comedian helming the show comes shortly after the NBC show made history by announcing its first non-binary cast member Molly Kearney back in September.

Though they have not addressed his arrival in the show after the 2021 The Closer backlash, one of the SNL writers reportedly addressed the upcoming show.

The SNL writer Celeste Yim reportedly wrote on Instagram Stories, “I’m trans and non-binary. I use they/them pronouns. Transphobia is murder and it should be condemned.”

Though it’s unclear whether they were boycotting the actor or this week’s show.

The episode of the Saturday Night Live show starring the Chappelle show host will be released on November 12.
