It was not just the only beginning of Meghan Markle’s life as a royal; she and Prince Harry also reportedly faced some serious threats to their life, like Princess Diana. The former head of counterterrorism for the Metropolitan Police in London allegedly claimed in an interview that the Royal couple faced several credible threats during their time in the United Kingdom.

Princess Diana’s Story Might Repeat Itself for Meghan Markle

The dutiful, innocent bride of the heir to the throne, Princess Diana, transformed herself into an outspoken and controversial figure. Due to her transformation, her life was in danger, and she faced many threats. At the end of August 1997, she ended up in a car accident on a Paris underpass. According to reports, Meghan Markle, 41, also received disgusting life threats as Princess Diana did.

In a new interview with Channel 4 News, Anil Kanti “Neil” Basu, former head of counterterrorism for the Metropolitan Police in London, claimed there were “disgusting and very real” threats against the Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry.

Basu described and explained this as the “fastest-growing” threat to the UK,

“I’ve talked publicly for many years about the threat of extreme right-wing terrorism in this country.”

The 54-year-old Basu, who earned the Queen’s Police Medal for distinguished service and became the Met Police counterterrorism unit’s senior officer in March 2018, two months before Markle and Prince Harry’s wedding, is leaving the force after 30 years.

When Basu was asked about the threats by the interviewer, he replied, “Well, disgusting and very real.”

He added,

“If you’d seen the stuff that was written and you were receiving it — the kind of rhetoric that’s online — if you don’t know what I know, you would feel under threat all of the time.”

According to him, Basu and his team investigated the alleged threats against Markle, and several individuals involved were prosecuted.

In the past, Prince Harry, 38, has been vocal about keeping Markle and their children; Archie, 3, and Lilibet, 17 months, safe from harm. During the Apple+ TV documentary The Me You Can’t See, the prince claimed he feared for his wife’s life because of what the paparazzi did to his mother, Princess Diana.

Prince Harry alleged, “History was repeating itself.”

He said,

“My mother was chased to her death while she was in a relationship with someone who wasn’t white [Dodi Al Fayed], and now look what’s happened. You want to talk about history repeating itself? They’re not gonna stop until she dies.”

The Duke and the Duchess of Sussex’s safety concerns were influenced by the fact that they were stripped of their security benefits in the UK after they announced they would step down as senior members of the royal family and move to California in 2020. Harry’s legal team also previously stated that the Markle “did not feel safe” bringing their children to the UK.

According to the top officer, Prince Harry feels unsafe with his young family in the UK, despite ongoing lawsuits seeking police protection. According to the Royal couple, they have been decrying racist and violent threats since at least 2016, even though many critics accuse them of exaggerating the threat.
