THIS Harry Potter Star Tells Why He Still Supports Rowling Despite The Controversy
Harry Potter is one of the most successful franchises to date. For 11 years Harry Potter movies entertained us. To be honest, the craze for these movies never dies. After a decade, the cast and filmmakers reunited to celebrate its 20th Anniversary. However, we couldn’t see one person, the person responsible behind the whole franchise, JK Rowling. Why? That’s because of her views on trans people. This is nothing new. JK Rowling doesn’t hold good views about transgender people and this is exactly what she tweeted about. The tweet of hers stirred up her fans and other people on the internet. Such views and tweets of her only reflect the obscure difference between the art and the artist. Can you imagine the person who came up with Harry Potter novels could hold such views? Anyway, below is the tweet that stirred up the internet:
War is Peace.
Freedom is Slavery.
Ignorance is Strength.
The Penised Individual Who Raped You Is a Woman.https://t.co/SyxFnnboM1— J.K. Rowling (@jk_rowling) December 12, 2021
THIS Harry Potter Star Tells Why He Still Supports Rowling Despite The Controversy
So, after JK Rowling’s tweet, many of the Harry Potter cast didn’t approve of her views. However, we have one actor who still supports her even after the controversy. That actor is Jason Isaacs. Jason played the role of Lucius Malfoy in Harry Potter movies.
Talking to The Telegraph, Jason Isaacs explained that he does not identify with JK Rowling’s views on transgender. But he also says he cannot put her under scrutiny without speaking to her about it. He said:
“There’s a bunch of stuff about Jo. You know, I play complicated people, I’m interested in complicated people. I don’t want to get drawn into the trans issues, talking about them, because it’s such an extraordinary minefield,” He added, “So for all that she has said some very controversial things, I was not going to be jumping to stab her in the front — or back — without a conversation with her, which I’ve not managed to have yet.”
Jason doesn’t stop here. He goes on to tell The Telegraph that keeping her views aside, JK has done some great stuff for the people around her with her charitable work, Lumos, an organization that helps reunite the children with their lost families. He said:
“She has her opinions, I have mine. They differ in many different areas,” He added, “But one of the things that people should know about her too is that she has poured an enormous amount of her fortune into making the world a much better place, for vulnerable children, through her charity Lumos. Many of us Harry Potter actors have worked for it, and seen on the ground the work that they do.”
Celebs Other Than Jason Isaacs Who Talked About JK Rowling’s Views On Trans People
Jason Isaacs isn’t the only Harry Potter who has talked about Rowling’s views on trans people. Recently, Rupert Grint, who played Ron Wesley, shared that he doesn’t resonate with her views, but still sees her as family. In the end, he says, “It’s a tricky one.” Well, it surely is complicated!
In 2020, Daniel Radcliffe who played the protagonist said in a statement, “Transgender women are women.” Just like Rupert, Daniel doesn’t second Rowling’s views. Moreover, many of the cast members have distanced themselves from her!
