Placentas are the organs that grow inside a woman during pregnancy to nourish the baby. Spelling isn’t sure exactly which children they came from, but she believes keeping them brings good luck. While this might seem strange, it’s true.

In her misSPELLING podcast, Tori Spelling revealed she has been keeping two placentas in freezer for years. The actress shares five kids — Liam, Hattie, Stella, Finn, and Beau with her ex-husband Dean McDermott. She even admitted to having another placenta stored at a friend’s house, which she plans to pick up soon. The 51-year-old said:

This is normal. Because there’s all that fancy stuff you’re supposed to they say it’s good luck to eat it, or it’s good luck to bury it, or it’s good luck to, you know, have it sent and made into that powder and they put into pills and I’m just too lazy to send it out.

One surprising thing that the Stori Telling author revealed was that she and McDermott had eaten one of her placentas together at some point. Not only Spelling but Kim Kardashian is one among other celebrities who’ve chosen to preserve their placentas after childbirth, believing it helps in some way after giving birth.

Even Kim Kardashian tried eating her placenta to avoid feeling down after having her second baby. After giving birth to her son Saint in December, Kim K had her placenta preserved in a special way.

The Skims’ founder had hers “freeze-dried, and made into a pill form—not actually fry it like a steak and eat it.” Via US Weekly, the reality TV star said that the pills actually worked for her:

I had great results and felt so energized and didn’t have any signs of depression! I definitely had to do it again. Every time I take a pill, I feel a surge of energy and feel really healthy and good. I totally recommend it for anyone considering it!

Other famous mothers who have eaten their placentas include January Jones, Kim Zolciak, and Holly Madison. While some say eating the placenta can prevent postpartum depression, reduce bleeding, boost mood, energy, milk supply, and provide nutrients like iron, there’s no proof it offers health benefits. In fact, according to National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, consuming the placenta can be risky for mama!
