SUMMARY
  • Zachary Levi, who voiced Flynn Rider in 'Tangled', has suggested Timothée Chalamet for the role in a live-action remake.
  • 'Dune: Part Two' fell short to enter the billion-dollar club, and 'Tangled' might be the first billion-dollar film for Timothée Chalamet.
  • Other actors like Milo Manheim, Avantika Vandanapu and Florence Pugh have also been rumored for roles in 'Tangled' live-action.

Timothée Chalamet is on the rise in his Hollywood career. From his critically acclaimed performance in Dune: Part Two to a completely different character in Wonka, Chalamet seems to be the go-to actor of the new generation, and his next role might be in a Disney musical.

Tangled was one of the most successful animated films in 2010. Rapunzel’s story of classic fairy tale magic was blended with modern humor and music. Since Disney is now focusing on live-action remakes, fans want Flynn Rider and Rapunzel back in live-action.

Tangled wasn’t just another Disney princess movie. It gave a new take on the Rapunzel story. Zachary Levi voiced Flynn Rider and brought swagger and heart to the character.

Now, after almost 14 years, it seems like Levi is passing the torch. In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, he admitted he is a little old to play Flynn in a live-action version and wants Timothée Chalamet to take up the role next.

I mean, he’s already getting every other job but probably Timothée Chalamet? Unfortunately I feel like I’m a little old — and that I don’t know all of the younger actors that could be that guy.

Levi’s opinion has some weight in it. Chalamet has experience in musicals. He recently was praised by audiences as Willy Wonka and is set to play a young Bob Dylan in an upcoming biopic. He can sing, act, and has a charming persona, much like Flynn Rider.

Moreover, Dune: Part Two was a massive hit, but it didn’t cross the $1 billion mark at the box office. According to Box Office Mojo, it grossed about $711.8 million globally. A fan-favorite Disney live-action remake like Tangled could be Chalamet’s ticket to joining the billion-dollar club, as the original movie made about $592.4 million (according to Box Office Mojo), which is quite commendable for an animated film in 2010.

Rapunzel’s voice in Tangled, Mandy Moore, is also in favor of the live-action remake. She told Elite Daily that she would love to play Rapunzel’s mother this time around. For Repunzel’s role, Moore suggested pop star Sabrina Carpenter, saying she resembles a Disney princess in real life as well.

Timothée Chalamet and Others Rumored for Tangled Live-Action

Timothée Chalamet is most likely to make a good Flynn Rider and he has already been a popular choice among fans. His range as an actor could be perfect for bringing Flynn’s mix of charm and depth to life.

Chalamet’s Wonka performance might be the best preview of what he could bring to Flynn. Both characters have that energetic, charming quality, and Chalamet’s got the looks to pull off Flynn’s signature smolder.

However, there are other contenders in the mix. According to J-14 magazine, rumors began that Milo Manheim, who is known for Disney’s Zombies, was possibly screen testing for Flynn. And for Rapunzel, Mean Girls fame Avantika Vandanapu’s name was used.

The Avantika rumor sparked some controversy online. According to USA Today, some fans weren’t happy with the idea of an Indian American actress playing Rapunzel, who is traditionally a light-skinned, blonde princess. Other than her, Florence Pugh’s name was also rumored, according to The DisInsider.

Although nothing has been confirmed yet, Disney’s track record with these remakes is hit-or-miss, but with the right cast and approach, it could be expected to become the next billion-dollar movie.
