Tom Cruise’s One Incessant Demand on Top Gun: Maverick Forced Filmmakers to Use an Unlikely Beauty Product To Make the Flight Scenes Look More Realistic
It is no secret that American actor and film producer Tom Cruise believes in bringing his A-game to the action scenes. He is referred to as a Hollywood icon for his unmatchable contribution to the industry. Especially known for his wild action scenes, he has starred in some of the fan-favorite action movies like Jack Reacher, Knight and Day, and the Mission Impossible series.
Cruse has never liked compromising in his action scenes, and his demand for Top Gun: Maverick is a prominent example of it. One of his demands pushed the Top Gun: Maverick filmmakers to use an unexpected beauty product, namely a lip gloss, to make a particular scene more real than ever.
Filmmakers Of Top Gun: Maverick Had To Use An Unlikely Beauty Product To Fulfill Tom Cruise’s Demand
61-year-old American actor, Tom Cruise, has always left his fans awestruck with his action scenes in his movies. The fact that he does most of his stunts himself is like a cherry on top of a pudding. The amount of hard work that he puts into all of his movies is really impressive.
Cruise brought the action-adventure movie Top Gun: Maverick to the big screens in 2022. Directed by Joseph Kosinski, the movie is the highly anticipated sequel to 1986’s Top Gun. What’s really interesting apart from the action scenes of Top Gun: Maverick is the kind of demand that the Rain Man actor had made to the filmmakers.
In a recent interview with IMDb, American actor Glen Powell revealed the unusual demand Cruise made while on the set of Top Gun: Maverick.
Tom’s favorite phrase in the movie was like ‘we need more sweat, more sweat, right?’
To make the airplane scenes in Top Gun: Maverick more realistic, the actors used lip gloss on their faces. Powell mentioned that sweat dries up fast hence using lip gloss was the only option to make the actors look like they are constantly sweating.
Glen Powell’s Serenity Song is Rather Surprising
Following Tom Cruise’s demand for more sweat, Glen Powell discussed his serenity song taking reference from his 2023 movie, Anyone But You. The interviewer mentioned that in the movie, his character Ben used Unwritten by Natasha Bedingfield as his serenity song.
Following the mention, Powell was asked about his serenity song in real life to which he responded with Enrique Iglesias’ Hero. He said:
I think my serenity song is Enrique Iglesias’ I Could Be Your Hero, Baby.
On being asked about the reason behind it, Powell explained that he used to travel places in a van with his family back in his childhood days. While traveling in the van, his family used to have seminal CDs that everyone listened to regularly. Enrique Iglesias was one of those CDs and that’s the reason why the actor fell in love with the 49-year-old Spanish singer and songwriter.
Top Gun: Maverick is available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
