Recently, Tom Cruise‘s Scientology expanded its real estate holdings in the Los Angeles area by purchasing the 6,700-square-foot former church that has been converted into a posh gallery space. Many are baffled about how the secret organization intends to use the property.

The plans for Scientology’s new $13.5 million East Hollywood headquarters have been exclusively uncovered by Radar Online. The ‘Pacific Area Command Base’, its enormous West Coast headquarters, is just three city blocks away.

According to LA Department of City Planning records, the one-story red brick Gothic-Revival structure, which is the Bethany Lutheran Church, was constructed in 1926. It is situated on a 10,250-square-foot lot with a parking lot and an outdoor patio area.

The building is close to the church’s famous ‘Big Blue’ headquarters, which is known throughout Los Angeles for its 16-foot-tall rooftop ‘SCIENTOLOGY’ logo topped with a Christian cross. There are reportedly about 25 additional properties owned by Scientology in the LA region.

What is Scientology?

Ron Hubbard, an author from the United States, founded the Scientology movement and its associated set of beliefs and practices. Scientologists are followers of the religion. It has also been referred to as a business, a new religious movement, or a cult.

The Church of Scientology, a centralized and hierarchical organization with headquarters in Florida, is the main representative of the religion. Despite this, many adherents of the faith operate independently of the Church in what is referred to as the ‘Free Zone’.

Every person, according to texts from the Scientology religion, has an eternal inner self called a “Thetan“, which resides inside their physical body and has lived many other lives before.

In 1990, Tom Cruise first revealed his affiliation with the Church of Scientology. In a 1992 interview with Barbara Walters, Cruise later confirmed his membership. When the Jack Reacher star first enrolled in the church in the middle of the 1980s, he also met Mimi Rogers, his then-future first wife.

The actress was a skilled “auditor” for the religion because she had grown up with it after her father joined the religion.
