Tom Hanks Struggled to Watch Star Wars in Theatre Because of One Surprising Reason
Legendary figure Tom Hanks, one of the most recognizable and acclaimed personalities in the world of entertainment, despite being an acclaimed actor, had to struggle to watch Star Wars in theatres.
The Academy Awards winner had to wait along with his people in his hometown Cleveland, Ohio to witness the incredible work crafted by George Lucas in Star Wars as the original movie Episode IV: A New Hope was only released total of 30 theatres excluding the actor’s place, which was insanely limited.
Tom Hanks Struggled to Watch George Lucas’ Work in Star Wars
The limited release of George Lucas‘ Star Wars original movie Episode IV: A New Hope had a subsequent impact on many fans and viewers including renowned and Oscar winner Tom Hanks.
The News of the World star once recalled while honoring Lucas with the AFI Life Achievement Award in 2005 that he had struggled to watch the movie along with his people in Cleveland, Ohio due to the limited theatrical release in only 30 there’s excluding Hanks’s hometown. The actor said ( via American Film Institute):
“Clevelanders could read about Star Wars in TIME Magazine. A pretty good review, as I recall. But as far as actually paying money and seeing the movie at a local Cleveland cinema, didn’t happen.”
The Angels and Demons star humorously mentioned not being able to watch the movie in there’s and only read about it through the magazines. He added:
“We had to wait almost halfway through the month of June before we could glimpse that rebel blockade runner fleeing the Imperial cruiser somewhere above the planet Tatooine, in Cleveland, Ohio, 14 godforsaken days went by before we could go to a movie theater and see the first Star Wars movie – the one that is actually the fourth Star Wars movie.”
Tom Hanks recalled the time when Episode IV: New Hope just came and people longed to watch it despite the limited theatrical release, it was a massive hit and generated immense commendation and an incredible fanbase for the Star Wars franchise.

The two met on the sets of Tom Hank’s sitcom Bosom Buddies when the Elvis star was still married to his college sweetheart Samantha Lewes and Wilson was just a friend of the impeccable actor. The couple made their relationship public through a red-carpet event soon after Hank divorced his ex-wife and post two years of dating Rita Wilson and Tom Hanks tied the knot in 1988.
